PASSING THE TORCH: Outgoing Disney honcho, Michael Eisner (foreground) will leave his post a year earlier than expected so that Disney President, Bob Iger, can take the top spot. Photo: Getty Images
After a three-year hunt laden by bitter conflict, Walt Disney Co. .....picked inside favorite Bob Iger to become its new chief.
The move which puts long-time CEO Michael Eisner out to pasture on Sept. 30, a year sooner than planned raised an immediate outcry from a key dissident shareholder group which slammed the choice as "a breach of faith," illustrating that the board's still under Eisner's spell and must be replaced.
.....Iger regained the inside track for the top job in the past year, boosted by a string of super-hits this TV season, including "Desperate Housewives."
Despite being upset with both the process, .......leaders of a Disney shareholder revolt led by Disney heir Roy Disney and investor Stanley Gold proclaimed victory in their bitter fight to end Eisner's 20-year control of the company.
"We find it incomprehensible that the [board] failed to find a single external candidate interested in the job and thus handed Bob Iger the job by default," ..........."The need for the Walt Disney Co. to have a clean break from the prior regime and to change the leadership culture has been glaringly obvious to everyone except this board."
For Iger, the announcement caps off an up and down career. Iger entered TV as a weatherman in Ithaca in 1973 after graduating from Ithaca College. He rose through the ranks at ABC until it was purchased by Disney.
Nine years ago, Iger moved from ABC to Disney and held the posts of president and COO since 2000. He earned $12 million last year.

Yeah, but where will Eisner pop up next?
Like I said yesterday, Iger will just continue the Disney Corporation down that path Eisener set it down on. I don't care if Iger worked for ABC Sports (Under Rune Arledge) or ABC News. Iger sounds like a crooked punk.
Iger was a weatherman----those guys are right 67% of the time (/sarc).
HAHA! True. I just hate having to shovel "partly cloudy" all winter long.
This is all I needed to see in order to know that nothing will change at Disney.
LOL........good one.
Ithaca College? How bad is it?
Ask Behind Liberal Lines. He knows all about Ithaca, the City of Evil.
Thirty Years ago Weatherman had a different meaning!
Ithaca, the City of Evil? That bad, eh? We need details BLL.
"Thirty Years ago Weatherman had a different meaning!"
Today, however, that's all forgiven and those people are the establishment.
What we can expect here, though, is "Second verse, same as the first". More Hollyweird.
Yes, Roy ousted Ron Miller (married to Walt's daughter) b/c of lackluster leadership in favor of Eisner. But Eisner backstabbed Roy by ousting the last Disney from the board (on the basis of Roy's age). Eisner lived to regret that move.
Is it just me or are there any non-jewish studio heads anymore. Talk about prejudice and a closed shop.
Go ask Liz about her closed shop. She posts only about negative things done by Jews and Blacks. Except for last week when she posted about Stonecipher who was ousted from Boeing.
Any comments Liz? Am I wrong about this?
Ithica has been called the Berkley of the East, if that is any help.
Meet the new boss.
Same as the old boss.
Don't think many of us ever saw a "gay rights flag" (gag).....depicts the NAMBLA emblem, no doubt.
Thanks for your contribution to the thread.....great recommendation by Miss M.
BLL, you and The Mayor oughta exchange notes.
