I was rather fond of that show, for obvious reasons.

I think after about 500,000 years of this, and she'd be ready to kill the guy.

Maybe the laws against killing people would diminish as the age of the person being killed rose. Murder for those under 1000. Misdemeanor for killing those 1000-10,000 years old, and a hunting season for those over 10,000 years old?

Don't think so! Only a false prophet would teach otherwise.

A trophy and preferential parking for a century for killing any one over 20,000 years old.

I think Paul who wrote Romans, existed and wrote God's plan of salvation long before the apostates perverted it.
We protestants have "rightly divided the word of truth," and opted to believe it over those who perverted it.

I expect to see anything interesting from Heaven. When the end of my earthly life comes, that's fine.

THE 10-STEP CATHOLIC PROGRAMME

Say, rather, the ten-step Christian program, for we who are not Catholic embrace the same principles.

On the one hand, I sometimes regret the brevity of ordinary human life, because one lifetime is not enough for all I want to do--all the careers I would have liked to have, all the good works I'd like to undertake, all the subjects I would like to study, all the places and people I'd like to experience. But many times, times especially when I'm tired and down, I long to escape the heartbreaks of this life and see my Heavenly Father and all the loved ones who have already died. Many old people have told me that the idea of approaching death is almost sweet for the same reason.

Think, also, of how people would be psychologically after enduring a millenium of disappointments, heartaches, tragedies, losses! These are inevitable in life and most of us have about all we have the strength to bear; enduring them for centuries would change us in ways we can't imagine.

Which leads us speculation about the character of people who live for a millenium. If most people had no fear of death, no fear of being judged, would they make any effort to behave decently? I doubt it. More people are motivated to good behavior by fear of judgement than by the hope of drawing ever-closer to the Lord.

So imagine a world filled with psychologically old, physically young people, all of whom were so selfish that they would choose to forsake bearing children for their own pleasure. Not an attractive picture, is it? I don't want to live in a world like that, much less to live too long past 100.

I can see it now. Five workers will be supporting the Social Security of billions of retirees. The Democrats finally admit FDR's Ponzi scheme is in trouble when they realize it is not possible to get the shortfall out of the five workers' paychecks.

I,m screwed

I Smoke Cigars, Drink Beer, Skydive, SCUBA, Fly with anyone that will invite me, Love salty foods (Pickles uhhmm), crave Royal Ann Cherries in the Spring, Potatoes year round, the slightly charred or burnt flesh of many kinds of dead animals and I like my Fish Smoked, while I am having another beer. I am shocked that I have survived this long.

Peanuts anyone?

(although I do have a low tolerance of refined sugar, one non-diet soft drink will put me to sleep and basically leave me grumpy and worn-out, why I don't know, I just know that for me, it is best to avoid sugar, and that is simply from my experience and it may only be my metabolism)

It's false because the teachings and doctrines of Catholicism do not agree with a simple reading and understanding of the Scriptures. And only the truth of Scripture will justify in the end -- for God will judge us according to His Word, not by the dictates of some man-made religion, doctrine, or organization. What God's Word says will be all that matters on judgment day.

I would be bored silly after the first couple hundred years.

That would be my problem. I'm already changing careers in middle age. I know I couldn't do the same job for hundreds of years. I'd probably slit my wrists long before my time was up.

"But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day."

True -- but I guess we're talking in terms of a "mortal's time here on Earth"...I've always wondered how time measurements from the Bible would be converted into today's standards. I'm sure they've tried figuring it out.

"So, because of the statistical certainty of everyone eventually dying from war or accident, what I believe will be a more brutish world than we now live in, and the psychological effects of living in tedium forever,"

Strange as it would seem, we strive for tedium.

This has always interested me. I believe that the Bible is indeed God's Words -- however, over time, I am sure that the translation, copying, even the actual writing of the Book...has been influenced by man. As a Catholic, I don't believe that EVERY word in the Bible is perfect. Simply put, it is God's Message, written by man. The message, though it may often be hidden behind symbolism or misguided translation, is nevertheless clear.
