Monday, he lost his job. Friday, he lost his wife.
Ousted Boeing CEO Harry Stonecipher, booted for an extramarital affair with a colleague, could lose a lot more after his wife filed for divorce on Friday.
Joan Stonecipher filed just days after headlines splashed details of the affair her husband had with Debra Peabody, a 48-year-old Boeing vice president.
Citing "irreconcilable differences," Joan Stonecipher demands "a fair and reasonable sum" from her husband, whom she identifies as "well and able-bodied" and "of substantial income and wealth."
She filed for divorce just a month after the couple had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Wife seeks 'equitable share'
Joan Stonecipher says her husband is "capable of making suitable provisions" to ensure she continues to live "in a style commensurate" to what she enjoyed during their marriage.
She also demands "her equitable share of" all marital properties.
The couple, both 68, were enjoying retirement before Stonecipher was hired 15 months ago to burnish the company's reputation.
Boeing had been accused of ethical violations in securing defense contracts, and since then, it has focused on improving company ethics.
After an employee recently reported seeing e-mails from Stonecipher, detailing his affair with Washington-based Peabody, Boeing Chairman Lewis Platt said the way Stonecipher handled the affair had violated company ethics, adding it reflected on his "judgment and would impair his ability to lead the company."
Got $2.1 million bonus
Stonecipher will leave April 1 with no cushy financial send-off, though he will collect his 2004 bonus of $2.1 million, officials said.
In her divorce filing, Joan Stonecipher refers to such assets in seeking a "fair and reasonable sum" for her "temporary and permanent maintenance."
"Past attempts at reconciliation have failed," she adds. "And future attempts at reconciliation would be impracticable and not in the best interests of the family."
Her attorney, Donald Schiller, did not return a call late Friday.
The couple, Tennessee natives who share May birthdays, were married in Rossville, Ga., on Feb. 5, 1955, and have two living children and two grandchildren.
What happens to the bimbo employee who, likewise, committed adultery? She's a vice president of the company. She gets a reward too?

Not in this case. She should not have filed just on "irreconcilable differences" but on adultery. She should clean his clock. He can live in a one bedroom apartment or efficiency for all I care. A 68 year old man should have more control over his genitals than some 19 year old air head.
Dirty Harry will need A Fistful of Dollars.
I would say that that 48 year old hussy really cost this guy a bunch of money. He appears to be as dumb as Jack Welch, formerly of G.E. Hey old dopes: the Viagra can get you in trouble.
Last time it was a Boeing VP, it was a male boffing a female he was "mentoring" on his desk mid-afternoon. Door wasn't locked and someone walked in. He retired and she was fired.
He should not live in a one-bedroom. He should not live! We should kill him, as a lesson to all aging men everywhere whose fancy is turned on by a woman much younger than he. Yeah, that's it, death, for the sinner who commits such a common sin.
As for having "more control over his genitals than some 19 year old air head"...I think you meant control over his libido, not necessarily the actual equipment. And why discriminate against 19-year-olds who yield to the most powerful urge there is? I've known plenty of men who've yielded to said urge, and they range all across the age spectrum, up to and past 68, the age in question here.
My mother once upbraided my father for staring a second too long at a gorgeous woman. His response: If I ever don't look at a woman who looks like that, call 911, 'cause I'm dead.
As for the wife who's suing and wants her "fair share" (not saying she doesn't have a legitimate complaint, or that she hasn't truly been damaged), I would remind her that she has spent a literal half century living at the very top of American society not because she played the loyal wifey, but because she was married to the rare man who excelled at the highest level in the corporate world. Could she have done better? Not bloody likely. Would he have risen to the heights he enjoyed without her? Most very likely.
V I A G A R A
I'd say that qualifies as a seriously bad week.
What a goof.

"I would remind her that she has spent a literal half century living at the very top of American society not because she played the loyal wifey, but because she was married to the rare man who excelled at the highest level in the corporate world".
I was fortunate to get onto the "highest level of the corporate world" ladder at a young age. I had just won a sales contest and the reward was to visit the Home Office. When my wife and I were seated at the table, my wife ended up sitting next to Top Guy's wife. They liked each other, went shopping together the next day, and then the day after that. Before the meeting was over, Top Guy had offered me the job. I would bet that Stonecipher's wife may have played that role many times. They were married for 50 years while he was climbing the corporate ladder. You don't get there without being married to a cheerleader.
No one I know has had a week like that! Then again, it's not like Harry was walking down the sidewalk and was hit by a car and then was confronted with his wife filing for divorce.
Remember the Bendix CEO who kept saying he wasn't involved with his company paramour and then he married her?
Bendix. Yep, the first of this ilk of top level office romances.
How does a 48 year old have a 50 year marriage????
William Agee and Mary Cuningham.
Good post. It's about time we had more men like you stand up for adultery.
The "other woman" was just 48. I believe she's persusing Monster.com now. Harry, age 68, was married to his wife--also the same age--for 50 years.
