A former Habitat for Humanity family that came under scrutiny two years ago when the city condemned their home has been forced out again.
City inspectors condemned the home of Charles and Barbara Smith, 2517 N. Main Ave., on Friday because the double-block home didn't have heat.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith and most of their 18 children moved into the home in 2000 after Habitat for Humanity of Lackawanna County helped renovate the building.
The family lost that home in July 2003 when it was condemned.
Habitat and the family worked on the house, and the Smiths returned six months later. Mr. Smith promised at the time that it wouldn't happen again.

Habitat for Humanity got played for chumps. The guy has no desire to actually contribute to society.
wow, 18 children
"wow, 18 children"
Well, we can guess what he likes to do. Meanwhile the rest of us have what we can afford.
Aw come on,he's eighty years old!
What the hell business is it of the governmen'at if they want to have heat in their house or not?
"Aw come on,he's eighty years old!"
Well ... you explain how he had so many. Maybe Viagra was just the drug he needed to get going again. I don't know ... .
18?????
damn, is that the rabbit family?
Erps, governmen'at = government's
Free Frodo!
Oops. Sorry, mis-read it as Hobit Home condemned.
Oh, you must be talking about Jimmeh, not this clown with the 18 kids.
Hey, my Dad is in his 80's and he gives a young teenage competition. He's still managing his own rental properties. Jimmeh, had a fairly charmed life. Surely he can hold a hammer in his hand more than three times a year ONLY for photo ops.
This story is sadly lacking in information. First, the house is no longer a Habitat house because the family has already met their obligation to the organization. Second, what is the law that says a house must have a working furnace? Is there such a thing? Better a family outside on the street than inside a building with no heat?
I agree...Assuming there's no abuse or neglect, why on earth would they care?
Jimma! Jimma Carter!
White Courtesy Telephone Please!
Who cares how many children they have? Some people are just trash.

I moved to Largo, Florida in 1969. A low-income housing project was being built about a mile away on a mail drag, about 1 mile from the Gulf Beaches.
The project was nearing completion and the contractor put in sod for the common grounds. It opened on a Saturday, and when I went to work on Monday, I noticed that the clothes line polls were gone. When I came home that night, all of the sod was gone. many of the doors had been removed, and outside fixtures were mostly gone.
It later was reported that most of the electrical fixtures and wiring had been stripped, and all appliances were gone or out front for sale. Plumbing was ripped out and, for all practical purposes, the places were unlivable.
TWO FRIGGIN DAYS! Our taxes at work.
With 18 people in one little house, would they even NEED heat?
