Does it seem odd to you all the high-profile shootings lately just as they are trying to reintroduce gun bills in the Senate?

5 dead after shooting at Brookfield, Wis., hotel
Associated Pfress
March 13, 2005 BROOK0313

BROOKFIELD, Wis. - A shooting at a church function at the Sheraton hotel left five people — including the gunman — dead and sent several people to area hospitals Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

The gunman apparently shot and killed himself, said Brookfield Police Department Daniel Tushaus.

"There is nobody else being sought at this time as a suspect,'' he said.

Seven to eight people, ages from early teens to the 60s, were taken to hospital and were in serious condition, he said.

The shooting was reported to police at 12:51 p.m. Tushaus said it occurred during a regularly scheduled church service at the hotel.

Dang. I hate news like this. My connection with Brookfield, FWIW, was short, and long ago. Went to what was then "Pilgrim Park Junior High School." Lived at the west end of town, not far from Pewaukee.

Prayers for all who have to deal with the ramifications of this.

The gun control freaks will be all over the news next week, Atlanta, this incident, and whatever else happens this weekend that they will use to try/cry for more gun control.

Wisconsin is a "no issue" state; consequently, the law-abiding cannot protect themselves in public.

Sorry, folks. I want to get back onto the subject of this thread. This horrible incident. I almost hate to turn on the news anymore. Sometimes I wish I lived back when we didn't even have radios, TV, computers...and only heard the bad news in our neighborhoods - where we could do some good and maybe help.

I get so angry myself, and often very caught up in the hype of things, like the goings on for the past 24 hours in Atlanta. All I wanted to hear was that the guy was caught and that it ended. I had to remind myself to think of the victims and the sorrow of the reality of what was the worst about the story.

But, now we learn of new families of the people who have died today at the hands of this gunman, oh how they must be suffering. I am trying very hard to keep it in perspective and focus on what great losses have occured. My heart goes out to them. I have felt tragedy in my own life, and I know the healing hurts and takes a long time. I pray for their peace and comfort.
