Prime Minister Paul Martin was called on yesterday to throw the book at his government's parliamentary secretary for Canada-U.S. relations after she said Canada should try to embarrass the United States on the world stage as unfair traders.
The remarks by Marlene Jennings prompted Conservative finance critic Monte Solberg to say Ms. Jennings should be drummed out of her job.
"The bungling on the Canada-U.S. file just continues on and on," he said. "When is she going to be kicked out of her position?"
Ms. Jennings, a Quebec MP, made the comments at a Commons committee Tuesday.
"Let's embarrass the hell out of the Americans in front of other countries that they are attempting to negotiate with on new binational trade agreements," she said then.
Later, she added that the United States might find it difficult if Canada lets it be known that it is having trouble with the Americans on a number of trade fronts.
"They want to expand their markets and other countries are going to be leery if they see that America's best trading partner, closest neighbour, is saying, 'We're having problems getting the United States to respect this [free-trade] agreement.'
"I don't think that this would play very well for the Americans. Let's take it to their own backyard. Let's take it down into the States, into the districts of these U.S. senators and these representatives "

With wenches like these, who needs enemies?
Should we finish what we started in 1812?
This is getting quite ridiculous. This has gone far beyond reasonable differences on subtantive policy issues, but has become a France-like "let's stick it to the evil Americans no matter what - whatever the US is for, we're against" foreign policy. Oh Canada -- how far thou are fallen!
Ok, I surrender, can the 3rd ID Paaaallllllleeeeeeaaaasssse free me from the tyranny of liberal stupidity?
Just keep insulting us weekly and see how friendly we remain.
Send in the boy scouts. On second thought, that would probably be too much force. So instead I say send in the girl scouts to invade Canada, eh?
Grow up Marlene!
Third Infantry Division?!! A platoon of basic trainees, nay, a detachment of the Civil Air Patrol; belay that, a Brownie troop could probably overwhem the Canadian military, if that submarine story is any indication.
Ms Jennings sounds as if she's from Massachusetts. Same Democrap anger. These type of people will never get over the fact that the American public voted President Bush into office two times in a row. They are angry, not at Bush per se, but at the American electorate. They are angry at Americans. I grew up in Buffalo NY and the anger towards Americans has always been there but it's only recently these pukes have gotten the balls to screach in public. Canada embarass the USA? Give me a break....
Another anti-American statement from a liberal and reported by the leftist MSM ... let's move along.
3rd ID is busy, wait your turn.
Ok! How bout the boy scouts?
No kidding. This is news?
Sprechen Sie "ANSCHLUSS"?
I read about 6 months ago that the eintire "prepared for battle" military in Canada is smaller than the Toronto police force.
Be nice, Canaduh was gonna help us in Iraq but their helicopter broke and crashed on their boat.
I'm glad I'm not a representative of my country so i can say whatever i please. The only peoples she is embarrassing is herself and her fellow countrymen. If she has a problem with the trade policies between our two country's, it would be more constructive if she could restrain her hatred and be more diplomatic about it. But she probably got elected on her hatred of the United States and such statements give her constituents comfort.
Welcome to FR.
Oh Yeah, Im sure thats how it happened.
