WASHINGTON..In contemporary American politics, as in earlier forms of vaudeville, it helps to have had an easy act to follow. Gerald Reynolds certainly did.
The U.S. Commission on Civil Rights new chairman follows Mary Frances Berry, whose seedy career...

Isn't Berry the one that refuses to leave the CSC and who Hitlery defends each time?
One and the same.
Yep, it's time to defund CSC even if it's just to get rid of Berry. Bet the reason she stays around so long is because her relative (maybe hubby--Marion Berry) keeps staying in politics.
Berry is gone. She vacated her office back in December (finally). The commission as a whole is an artifact that has outlived its usefulness.
Puhlez do - and the IGR, the TWP, the GHR, the TDA, and the myrid other Federal agencies, bureaus and commissions that make our government so top heavy that swimming with your head outa water is almost impossible. Fire the lot.
Sorry, Lilly. You've confused your Berries and Barries. Mary Frances Berry is the former head of the CRC. She has left the Commission and has, I believe, gone back to the University of Pennsylvania, which should be embarrassed that she is on their faculty. Marion Barry, former DC Mayor and Cultural Icon, is now a DC Council Member. The two are unrelated by blood or marriage, though they do share a willingness to characterize all issues and racial and demagogue those issues shamelessly.
I agree but I think I will write the commission and complain about the intimidation and extortion racket that the ACLU has going.
W.C. Fields once said never work with dogs or children. He never knew Mary Frances Berry or he would have added her to the list.
Yes, that would be an easy place to cut the budget.
It's easy. Marion Berry is also a Democrat congresscritter from Arkansas and a delicious berry that makes a fine fruit spread Marion Berry MMMmmm
Sadly, she has returned to the University of Pennsylvania, where she teaches American History. One can only shudder at the thought of the lefty mush those young students are exposed to.No doubt topped off with an unhealthy dose of hate whitey.
Another fact: the legislation limited the number of members who can belong to one party. Useless: Clinton got around this by pretending that Democrats (including Ms. Berry) were "independents".
UPenn now has some very active conservative student clubs and organizations that didn't exist 20 years ago. I remember reading some of their stuff online at the beginning of the Clinton years, and found it remarkable that those youngsters saw through the Bill and Hillary traveling road show and circus. Methinks Ms. Berry's free ride is over, at least on that campus.
It also cant hurt that Papa Joe Paterno is a big Bush fan. That campus and all of the commonwealth love Papa Joe.
From a monetary point of view, defunding is chump change. The political reality is that the CBC will stomp their feet and scream disenfranchisement.
Let Em, it will be fun to watch.
Joe Paterno is at Penn State. University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) is a different, ivy league, school.
