Sorry but "a few extra minutes in line at the airport, and taking off your belt" ain't exactly Kristallnacht.

Of course not. It took a lot of little things like this to build up to Kristallnacht.

You were just way off base with this whole thing, admit it :)

Before I fully admit, let me call my Muslim relatives and see what they think now. Last I heard they weren't too happy.

Like "this"? Like what? You haven't cited a single thing of substance or having basis in fact. As of now we've got only your Jewish friend's complaint that he gets extra security too often in airports. Even if that's true, what the hell that has to do with anything is beyond me. You've told me he "looks Arab". I've explained to you that computers don't know that. You've admitted that the extra screening could be traceable to something other than the fact that he's a Muslim. Which he isn't in the first place, making your complaint doubly bizarre.

So there's no "this" left on the table to discuss, just an elaborate house of cards you've constructed out of nothing.

Before I fully admit, let me call my Muslim relatives and see what they think now. Last I heard they weren't too happy.

It is too bad that your Muslim relatives are unhappy, about whatever it is that they are unhappy about, and on some level I do admire what (I can now see) is your misguided overzealousness in engaging in what you perceive to be standing up for your relatives, but your Muslim relatives being unhappy does not constitute a proof that the U.S. has done something "disproportionate" since 9/11/2001.

Osama Bin Laden, too, is unhappy with the United States. Does that prove that the United States mistreated him? Let me know,

I am an Arab-American, though not Muslim, and am never stopped at airport security.

"Because he's always stopped."

Only a complete idiot would mistake an Orthodox Jew in Orthodox garb as being an Arab. But then, some of these screeners aren't the brightest bulb on the tree. At the same time, being dressed as an Orthodox Jew would be the perfect cover for an Arab terrorist trying to give airport security the slip, so I don't blame them for checking him.

but your Muslim relatives being unhappy does not constitute a proof that the U.S. has done something "disproportionate" since 9/11/2001.

Google "patriot act abuse." You'll notice that almost all reported instances were against Muslims.

Is "reported abuse" the same thing as abuse? Again, OBL has "reported" that the United States foreign policy is evil and intended to make war on Muslims. Does that mean it is?

Also, even if the "Patriot Act" has been abused X times, and almost all against Muslims as you say... would that be a "disproportionate" response to 9/11? That would require you to make an argument for something instead of lodging one-sided bald-faced complaints.

Are you for real here? Maybe you are satire. Do you have anything real or rational to tell me? How many times do you intend to ping me with these vacuous responses?

They've found at least one case substantiated. Others are still under investigation.

Definitely, and we have a habit of doing that. After McVeigh did his bomb, the FBI and BATF was all over militia groups, and many who just liked guns and distrusted the government (sad thing is, they built that distrust through Waco and Ruby Ridge). Face it, our government just has a history of overreacting or reacting wrongly to real or perceived threats -- remember COINTELPRO? The disintegration of various amendments under the WOD?

They've found at least one case substantiated.

So, one case of "abuse" of Patriot Act = "disproportionate response to 9/11"?

What did this abuse consist of?

Are no other laws ever abused?

You grow tiresome. If there had been pogroms then maybe I'd call that "disproportionate" response to 9/11. You wouldn't have to bring up this piddly stuff. It just shows that you have no real grasp of what "disproportionate" consists of.

I think this part was in a sepparate statement made the same day by the same people.

The fatwa itself doesn't mention the US.

Absolutely, where have you been last year?

Aznar tried to promote the ETA version but not even 24 hours later the muslim option was quite clear.

In fact 11 of the 13 persons that are supposed to have prepared and executed the attack are now dead or in jail (most of them dead). They were all muslims.

If you were being ironic sorry I haven't cought it.
