MOULTON — Upset by her daughter's actions, a Lawrence County woman whipped her at school and had a panic attack when police arrived.

The incident happened Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at Lawrence County High School, said Moulton Police Chief Ed Weatherford.

Moulton police did not charge the woman with a crime, and declined to release her name.

Pierced tongue

Weatherford said the woman discovered that her 16-year-old daughter had a pierced tongue and was wearing a tongue ring at school.

"She went to the school, found her and whipped her" in a hallway, Weatherford said.

School officials called Moulton police, and the woman had a panic attack when they arrived.

The mother was taken to Lawrence Medical Center.

Weatherford said his officers did not arrest the woman because they did not see her commit a crime. Weatherford said the Lawrence County Department of Human Resources is investigating the incident.

The daughter got what she deserved. I'm shocked that a minor could get a tongue piercing without parental consent. Lots of places have laws against that.

If you just grab it and rip it out it pretty much insures she won't try that sort of thing again. No need to panic about it. If she loses the tougue she'll be more marriageable anyway.

Why can't a parent slap, spank, or whip their child for such things?

Even thinking this was a crime is wrong.
