Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) March 9, 2005 -- The Law Offices of David Asser are looking for a production company interested in producing a feature length film in Arizona. The movie deals with Arizonas unique immigration situation as being ground zero.
The premise of the film is about an anti-immigrant Senator, his daughter and an asylum seeker. The Senator, whose character is based on a real politician, is on a crusade against illegal immigration. However, his daughter falls in love with the asylum seeker, which leads to conflict and disaster. The movie takes place in Arizona and brings together all aspects of what is special about the State, including the exceptional urban sprawl, the fear of the foreigner and healing of the Native American spirit.
The timing of the movie couldnt be more poignant. Arizonas film committee has just committed itself to bring more film projects to Arizona. Local movie producers, directors and talent are waiting for projects that could be produced in Arizona. Governor Napolitano has stressed the importance of a movie industry many times. And at the same time the debate about immigration is heating up. Local politicians are feeding the fire and Arizona citizens have expressed their frustration with the current system. This movie about immigration seems to have all the ingredients to finally get all parties interested.
This movie needs to be made, says David Asser, who came up with the idea for the film. Its time that we make a movie about the real issue that is going to be Americas toughest challenge in the coming years. If were not careful the issue of immigration could lead to a new civil war in this country, because it represents everything were afraid of and literally divides people.
David Asser should know. David is an immigration attorney who has been operating in the field for over ten years. He was a press secretary for the Dutch Justice Department and dealt with the immigration issue first hand. People would set themselves on fire in front of our building on a regular basis, says David. And this was almost ten years ago.
This movie is real. It is about real events, real cases, real people and the real situation. What is happening at the border and the State is absolutely frightening. This week the Arizona Republic mentioned that the Aryan Nation website got over a million hits when the White Supremacists announced that they are joining a militia to protect the border. Nobody is ready for this, but this issue will lead to major civil unrest. Politicians and people dont want to deal with the issue, but here it is, right I your face. Its happening.
David has been working on making this project happen since 1992. First, he tried to make this film in Europe. But there, as well as here, the production companies and television networks told him, that nobody wanted to see a movie about foreigners. According to them nobody cared. He still hears the same argument. However, he is determined.
Its such a stupid argument not to make this movie, David says. Theres no such thing as a local audience anymore. The world has become too small. We have an obligation to a global audience. And that audience will see the movie, because at some point or another were all foreigners.
When asked what the attraction would be for producer to snatch up the project, David responds: its a beautiful but explosive love story set against the back drop of power, hate, fear and ignorance. Its about people who believe in their own cause and think theyre doing the right thing. Its about suffering and the yearning for a better future. Its about our life and its about Arizona. Actually it is Arizona
The project needs a producer and a film commission with the guts to make this in Arizona with Arizona actors, an Arizona crew and Arizona support. David says that he hopes that the new promises by our politicians to bring film to Arizona arent just that: promises. I hope theyre not afraid to tackle a difficult subject matter and stand up to the challenge to get this movie be made. I know it will put our State on the map immediately.
The challenge is obvious and hopefully the efforts to make this film are not in vain.
On my lawyer despise-o-meter immigration attorneys register very high.
Let's see now, the movie will of course say that too much illegal Mexican immigration is a bad thing right? No? Well gosh, I'm surprised
I'm sure all the illegal immigrants will be noble, wonderful people, not gang members leaving trash and bodies all over the place. The women will be beautiful, the men handsome and not wearing hairnets, the children absolutely darling. They'll probably have a cute, fuzzy, stray dog too.
And I'm sure it will say what a terrible thing we racist Anglo's are losing our native culture that's provided so much freedom and progress to the world. Un huh. Sure.
There's no way the character is based on a current Senator, because there are no anti-immigration Senators right now.
Hey wait just one minute...I thought John Wayne put us on the map!! :)
"The Law Offices of David Asser"
That just says it all.
I think you thought right!!
Uh oh, get out your crystals...
