Ya beat me to it.

That song was the first time most folks heard of LeDoux. From what I remember, interest in LeDoux's music soared after Brooks' song mentioned him.

No kidding. I dream of that--have even looked into real estate in WY.

Prayers for Chris Ledoux's family.

Read every book I could get my hands on, and bought the collectors edition of We The Living with Alida Valli and Rosanno Brazzi soon as it came out.

Plus I was glued to the Mark Scott show every day between 1982 and 1986 (when we moved to Texas).

cubreporter, those lyrics are from a song called Can't see him from the road

Chris wrote some awesome songs - I think alot of them were about his life.

Country music.

Contradiction in terms.

Bummer for him, though.

I saw Chris perform the first time he ever played at Cheyenne Frontier Days in (I think) 1993.... it was a great thrill for him as he had ridden there many times, but had never performed there. The young cowboys were all down in front standing in front of the stage, just a rockin'!

I have heard a story (not sure it's true) that the first time Garth Brooks and Chris were performing together at a venue, Garth insisted on OPENING for Chris as Chris was the bigger star!

I think Chris played last year or the year before at Cheyenne again, didn't make it and I really wish I had.

God speed Chris....

One of the true and one of the few remaining "Country-Western" singers. Say "hey" to Gene & Roy for me.

I have a feeling that the lyrics for that song would cause MANY a FReeper to wipe a tear, hang their heads, and move on.

The skies he's riding are NO longer Western...they're ETERNAL.

He made his run for the border. He's ridin' tall. He now has Jesus as his riding companion. (and it's MORE than an 8 second ride)

MUSIC WORLD MOURNS THE DEATH OF COUNTRY ARTIST CHRIS LEDOUX

March 9, 2005 - Chris LeDoux, singer/songwriter and rodeo champion and acclaimed sculpture, passed away this morning at the age of 56 in Casper, Wyoming.

He had checked into the Casper Medical Center earlier this week following complications from ongoing treatment for cancer of the bile duct, and was surrounded by family and friends at the time of his death.

"All of us at Capitol Records and EMI Music are saddened at the passing of Chris," said Capitol Nashville President and CEO Mike Dungan. "In a world of egos and soundalikes, he was a unique artist and a wonderful man. We have always been proud to represent his music, and honored to call him our friend. Our thoughts go out to his wife Peggy and the LeDoux family."

LeDoux, a former world champion bronc rider, started playing music in his teens, while he competed in rodeos, writing about his life on the circuit. His songs captured the romance, the freedom, the dirt and the hurt of rodeo, and drew fans who demanded tapes of his songs. LeDoux had recorded 22 albums on his own, when Garth Brooks mentioned his name in the hit song, Much Too Young (To Be This Damn Old). As a result, LeDoux's music became more widely known, and he signed with Capitol Records Nashville in 1990. He released 15 since then, and sold nearly six million records.

In 2000, LeDoux was diagnosed with a liver disease, and successfully underwent a liver transplant. Within six months of the surgery, LeDoux was on tour again - throwing himself right back into the hard-driving, full-force stage shows he was known for. Late last year he was diagnosed with cancer and began undergoing radiation treatment.

A devoted husband and doting father, LeDoux spent his time off the road with his family at their ranch in Kaycee, Wyoming.

Rodeo Cowboys have been listening to Chris for a long long time. He used to record his own tapes and sell them at rodeos out of his trunk when he was rodeoin in the 70s. That's the connotation in Garth's song, "worn out tape of
Chris Ledoux" every rodeo cowboy know's what he's talkin about. That song still gives me goosebumps. Hung up my spurs at 42.
