Los Angeles Mayoral Election Results - Live Thread
Ya, you probably wouldn't be happy in the city of Los Angeles. It takes a certain je ne sais qua.
LA is within spitting distance of both beautiful mountains and beaches. Can't argue with geography.
The whole state is just like L.A.. The problems really haven't even hit yet. In the next five years it will get really bad here for a lot of people.I wish I could stick it out but I'm priced out of the market here.
BOB HERTZBERG seems energetic, styles himself as a pro-active reformer but is probably full of crap. Made traffic problems and busting up the school district cornerstones of his campaign.
KENNETH HAHN is the pathetic incumbent.
BERNARD PARKS is the police chief and is always begging for tax increases while his department "misplaced" millions due to awful accounting this year.
Those are the "major" candidates. They're all Dems, all love illegal aliens and driver's licenses for illegals. There one Republican who will accomplish nothing tonight.
I still own a cute Spanish house in a rustic setting 5 miles from downtown. I rent it out for a disgusting sum.
They just had a new update, the sample is still very small, though.

ANTONIO R. VILLARAIGOSA 26,228
25.37
BOB HERTZBERG 25,781
24.93
JAMES KENNETH HAHN 30,479
29.48
BERNARD C. PARKS 13,198
12.76
As of last Nov, and UNDERLINED with tonight's council vote, San Diego has clearly fallen. The last vestige of the old republicanism has been driven into the sea by unions, illegals, race-hustlers, socialism and apathy.
The action finally begins. You can see that in this small sample of near downtown precincts, V got about 50% of the vote.
I had been looking at buying in the Highland Park/Montecito Heights area for years, and it just rocketed away from my grasp. I just won't touch a 400k two-bedroom house with steel bars in gangland. Of course, that same house may be 500k next year. Sheesh.
Since they won't tax the poor they are going after the upper middle class and rich and those poeple will only take so much before they say, adios amigos.
The top five candidates were all Democrats. They were followed by two Republicans: Moore and Wyatt. The latter two were almost completely ignored by the media and weren't invited to most of the debates. Only the top five (all Dems) were invited to the major debates.
Note that this is primarily votes from districts 1, 4, 8, and 14.. heavily hispanic and black districts.
Well, I'm a Bay Area guy so, to an extent, what happens in LA doesn't concern me too much (well, other then the fact that they elect liberals to Sacramento to screw us up [not that we are innocent either [coughSFBezerkleySantaCruzMarinCountyOaklandcough]). But otherwise, what happens in LA doesn't concern me too much. Still, doesn't mean I want some La Raza guy as the mayor either.
As for this state being a lost cause, well, I don't know. Currently I am in the 'conservative' part of the state (Riverside for school). And if we can even get SOME reforms, we might be able to get out of this death spiral we're in. I love this state and almost my entire family lives heres. There are still many sane people in this state (one who founded this site I might add). Still, the thought that one day I'll live in Nevada isn't completely a fantasy.
V's real name is Tony Villar. The full name is his name + his wife's name:

Hertzberg is on the board of MALDEF:

Parks *was* the police chief, but he was fired by Hahn.
Hahn actually said something negative about illegal immigration recently.
Whoever goes against V in the runoff is the one everyone should support. Assuming there will be a runoff and V will be in it.
Do the math on the boomers retirement costs. It ain't pretty.
For those in the LA area, did you see this?

Who won the LA Mayoral race? I was listening to Ms. Matsui reciting her victory speech. The dingbat timed her speech to coincide with the start of the Rush Repeat!
Ya, I looked myself there as a young lawyer back around 1980. I ended up creating my little empire in Silverlake and Los Feliz. And then I decamped to Orange County when I changed law firms, and now live in white bread land, in Laguna Niguel.
Its going on 11 and they still dont have a majority of the returns? What gives? Anybody out there know whats going on?
