What is the "non-sporting" & "points" tests?
When I was looking in to getting a Glock that struck me as odd that the .38 wasn't able to be imported into the US.
(BTW I settled on a G30)
I was with you right up to there.
John Browing may not have been God but he was--- Moses. The 1911 is not perfect as many think but it is one of the greatest designs ever, maybe the best combat pistol ever. Also the Browing HP is right up there.
The extractor, if made perfect works fine but it is often a sourch of problems. Also the slide stop-safety plunger has a habit of coming loose (I have had this happen more than once). The grip safety is superfluos, although I understand Browning did not like it but put it there at the insistence of the army.
Also the field stripping is awkward, especially trying to get that barrel link just right before putting the slide stop back in. It is the easiest to detail strip of any gun I am aware of tho.
All in all tho, I will take any Browning gun over just about any other.

Imagine a world where there were 3 Chevys sold for every other car on the road. Then imagine that many of those Chevys were sold on the basis of being a better car for dumbass drivers.

The 1911 and it's predecessor the 1905 were both designed and built in the 20th Century. Nothing about human ergonomics has changed since then. Materials have, but not hands or brains. The double action Browning Hi Power came out in 1930 or so, but was based on a John Moses Browning design and patent from the early 1920s.
It apparently was in his upper thigh, near more critical items of his anatomy.
He certainly didn't act like a guy who just took a bullet in the leg. Maybe it was the adrenaline, maybe he is like a dinosaur and it took several minutes for the information to be relayed to his tiny little brain.
Perhaps. But both involve shooting only what you want to shoot, and I think both are more general than either just self defense or hunting. NRA "mindset" probably leans more towards hunting and target shooting, Cooper to self defense and military type situations.
It's all one thing. The law talks about sporting purposes, but with respect to handguns the BATE (I think) came up with a points system to determine which handguns were "sporting" and which were not. I'm not sure of the details, but things like safeties get you points, but being big does as well. The Glocks in the less powerful chamberings were likely too small to be importable.
