Five militants arrested in Chechnya KHANKALA. March 5 (Interfax) - Five militants involved in major crimes have been arrested in Chechnya, a spokesman for the regional headquarters of the counter-terrorist operation in the North Caucasus told Interfax. "One militant was arrested in the village of Geldagan in the Kurchaloi district of Chechnya. In 1999, he took part in the abduction and murder of three employees of the North Caucasian Strela Automated Air Traffic Control Center," the spokesman said. Three other militants were detained in Achkhoi-Martan and Naurskaya. "In January, two of them blew up a VAZ-2110 car carrying a deputy chief of the Achkhoi-Martan prosecutor's office, who was seriously wounded in the blast," the spokesman said. Another militant, who was involved in the assassination of Nasrudin Matuyev, the mullah of Novye Atagi, has been arrested. He is a suspected member of a gang led by Timur Abubakarov. "During interrogation, he disclosed the names of other perpetrators of this and other crimes, and indicated their possible whereabouts," the spokesman said.
