We need evangelical Christian support
Haaretz ^ | 3/7/05 | Yehiel Eckstein

Posted on 03/08/2005 7:05:29 AM PST by ZGuy

In a recent op-ed column ("A pernicious, dangerous alliance," Haaretz, February 23), MK Avshalom Vilan expressed concern about the alliance that is being "forged" between evangelical Christians in the United States and the extreme right in Israel. A sober and correct consideration of the situation would lead to the conclusion that today, more than ever, the State of Israel and its leaders should welcome the embrace offered by the evangelical community, which should not be taken lightly. This support is particularly important given recent expressions of anti-Semitism and the anti-Israeli attitude of Europe and the UN.

In contrast to the evangelical movement, the liberal Protestant movements declared a consumer boycott and a move toward divestment from Israel a few months ago.

The economic, political, public relations and tourism support of the evangelical Christians is invaluable, and is critical to the continued existence of the State of Israel. Evangelical Christians are highly important allies - particularly at this time, when Israel finds itself at a political and social crossroads.

The Torah writes about "a people that shall dwell alone and shall not be reckoned among the nations," but when there is such a large and significant movement of believers who offer their love without limits and without conditions, it is only right that we cooperate with them and thank them for their help, rather than attack them. At a time when the rest of the world is arrayed against us, evangelical Christians are true friends who stand alongside us.

Rabbi Ekstein is a visionary who takes a lot of flack in the Jewish community. Some in the Jewish community believe Christians' only interest is in converting them, some Jews have residual prejudices and fears born of historical persecutions, and some just dislike all religion. Neither of the first two are relevant today in the Evangelical community, and the third is the bane of both communities.

I've met him and he's a wonderful person who has devoted his life to this organization:

That's him in the prayer shawl on the left side.

Isn't it true how much pontification we hear from those who are completely unschooled in the Bible? Here are two of their favorites. How much death and destruction was done in the name of God, and "turn the other cheek", consequently we should not engage in war.

"...There are also Evangelical Christians who covertly use forums for "interfaith dialogue" as a come-on for proselytism. In private discussions among themselves which have come to our attention, Evangelicals openly acknowledge this intentional misuse of "dialogue"..."

I engage in "interfaith dialogue" every day with Observant Jews, especially on Free Republic. They know where I stand. I know where they stand. We are in His Hands.

I support and pray for the Nation of Israel and the Jews, because His Heart is for His people Israel, and the ongoing work of restoration in the Land; the miraculous preservation of exclusive Jewish norms, culture, identity, and faith, through two millennia since the diaspora is irrefutable proof there is a living G-d and He keeps His covenant promises, which is a wonderful thing.

My Pastor and his peers, especially among the national Calvary Chapel community, have stood before the American President and representatives of the U.S. Federal government on behalf of the Nation of Israel and the Jews because they are faithful, even still, realizing that Israel only needs One supporter, HaShem.

Finally, I started the Christian Supporters of Israel List at Free Republic, and writing in advocacy of the Nation of Israel, because, to contend in the arena of ideas in this regard was all I could do, temporally, and second, like a lot of American Christians, we just got sick of seeing Jewish innocents blown up on buses, shot, stabbed, and assaulted by Islamic killers on the news and front pages of the paper every day.

If there is a conspiracy to covertly convert Jews, especially by me and mine, Alouette is gonna' be pissed.  !

Other than evangelical American Christians, I wonder who MK Vilan thinks is a better friend for Israel--in the whole world. Turks? Chinese? Russians? Democrats? Indians? French? Japanese? Who?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know, the only mainline American denomination that has recommended divestment in Israel is the Presbyterian Church (USA). This position was widely discussed and condemned on FR last year when it was recommended by the national body of the PCUSA.

Yep,

Jews and Christians are being punished for forsaking God. God gives no preferential treatment.

It is sad that Israeli and American leaders have turned so far from God that they cannot see the evil they are fighting in islam. Only God can beat allah, and I don't think He is gonna help us until we as a nation turn back to Him.

Yep, but guess who gets all the press, like they are so "progressive."

The prohibition refers to any kind of official public disputes, such as a panel with a rabbi and a priest, not to personal interactions.

A forum like this might be borderline, but it seems to me mostly personal, and in any case, I have seen few or no Jews engaging in theological disputations. Straightforward questions of fact can be dealt with straightforwardly.

And on a forum like this, deception seems pretty hard to get away with, LOL.

At least someone sees the truth, Evangelical Christians are Israels best friends and supporters.
They are the tree, we've been grafted on.

"...and in any case, I have seen few or no Jews engaging in theological disputations."

Your profile says you have been registered here only since October of 2004? I'll have to try and dig up some of the older threads when the Jews here are laying out Orthodox belief. Likewise there are Christians who engage from their position.

Sometimes it gets heated. People get banned. Then, another bus would be blown up in Israel or some other bloody Islamic atrocity like the murder of the Hatuel family of Gush Katif and it immediately reestablishes some perspective. So we work together productively without compromising our respective principles and beliefs, because whether we like it or not, we are in an ongoing war against a mutual enemy.

"And on a forum like this, deception seems pretty hard to get away with, LOL."

Haaaaaaaa! Yeah, everything gets thrown into the white hot FReeper foundry. Either here in the forum or out in the field.

Just ask Dan Rather!  !

Then pray tell why do Jews vote for Democrats?

I could never figure that one out either. The dims despise the Jews as much as they do theb blacks. But both keep voting for them.
