I know nothing of this "gaggle" so I can't pretend to enter the debate about their merits and motivations. BUT...

Unless you're talking about an independently wealthy scientist funding everything with his own money, isn't all science "bought and paid for"?

Translation: You'll believe whatever you choose to believe, damn the facts, and any evidence or results to the contrary will be dismissed out of hand as "bought and paid for science".

For example, you'll believe any horrible thing about Dennett that pops into your head, regardless of how much it clashes with what Dennett has actually written.
