--I would rather shoot varmints with it than depend on it for anything bigger--(although I don't believe anybody suggested "getting it for shooting varmints")--
That's what I mean -- it's really out of place in the civilian world. The round it fires was originally developed to be armor-piercing, but civilians get only the less lethal version of the round. This pistol and the P90 were developed around the armor-piercing round, not the civilian round.
---the anti-gunners aren't dumb and will grasp at any straw, aided and abetted by the media--
It is, and it will. But a civilian getting his hands on some AP rounds is a whole other story. Without those rounds, it's less lethal than many other pistols on the market -- a nice fact the anti-gunners leave out.
Man, I don't know what I was thinking. I recently discussed this with a guy who told me that the casing of the 5.7x28mm is a good bit longer and oddly shaped compared to the Sig. I guess I'd half remembered the conversation about the Sig and FN, and somehow crossed my wires and decided it was the same cartridge.
Close, but no cigar... };^b)
My 1911A1 is my backup...
If you get drilled by 50 little holes from the P90, it is probably a good stopper, and you can carry lots of ammo. Or I suppose 20 little holes from the Five-seveN. Or one big hole from a .45.
Or if I'm wearing a vest, the .45 doesn't penetrate while the P90 ammo goes right through. The P90 is really amazing. It's lethal to a protected target at 200m. With a 50 round clip it weighs the same as an MP5 with 30 rounds, while being more compact. Its recoil system is so good that you can get a 10" group on a 50m target while emptying the whole clip at full auto (900rpm). It's fully ambidextrous. You can strip and clean it in a few minuts. And the pistol takes the same ammo so you only have to carry one kind
But that's military purpose with military ammo. I don't see the point in civilians buying it. I'd rather have the .45 you mentioned.
I agree. A 5.7mm just will not have the knock down power of the .45 although it seems like a fun gun to shoot. I would think with all of that powder behind that small of a projectile you would run the risk of collateral damage, through the assailant and into a bystander if used for self defense or through an apartment wall. Wouldn’t want to be responsible for the death of an innocent child or bystanderdue to the velocity of the round. That’s why I don’t much prefer to carry my 9mm either.
Price is $899 everywhere I’ve seen it.
I walked into the gun shop thinking I would purchase a Sig 45 or 1911... now I'm not so sure. I like this gun...
