The 8-inchers on the Salem-class heavy cruisers were the largest naval guns that utilized cased ammunition. Just like a giant 30-06, these guns could fire almost as fast as you could pull the trigger. If you ever get up to the Socialist Republic of Massachusetts, stop into Salem, where the cruiser Salem is a museum ship. I haven't been myself, but one of my friends visited last year and said that it was awesome.
