I was just chatting with someone else and I said that this should be interesting. Normally, Medved is peerless in keeping guests and callers on topic. However, if he can keep Keyes in check, he will be qualified to take on tornadoes and hurricanes. :D

An embarrassment for Republicans

http://www.NewsAndOpinion.com | If a Democratic candidate came up with the offensive idea that millions of Americans should get a tax break based on skin color, Republicans would denounce this demagogue for his rank racism. Unfortunately, the demagogue in question represents the GOP — since Illinois Republicans made the sad mistake of anointing Alan Keyes as their US Senate Candidate.

Keyes wants all citizens with slave ancestors to enjoy freedom from all federal taxes for 20 to 40 years — meaning that Oprah Winfrey will pay nothing, while the white janitor who services her building would pay more to make up for it.

The fact that Keyes speaks strongly on the abortion issue shouldn't insulate him from well-deserved criticism — for his racist show-boating and his carpet-bagging opportunism as a last minute contender in a state to which he has no connection.

Conservatives need to find the courage and conscience to declare that candidate Keyes is an embarrassment to our cause.

I only noted I would not want to spend 15 year like this and would prefer to spend time in heaven.

One point that has been noted is the distinction between objective opinions made at full health about hypothetical situations, and those more subjective opinions made after a tragic accident or injury. Often, due to subjective forces, injury survivors find themselves wanting to live, despite the "guess" that they would have preferred to die. I have read on FR that this is what happened to Christopher Reeve. I think that people (at least who are consciously alert) after a debilitating injury come to realize that they have a value above and beyond that which comes from their own self-perception. They realize that they have great value to those people who love them and that creates a powerful will to continue to live. Many people come to accept their circumstances and still cherish life.

My point, if I can say it as politely as possible, is that you may have a different opinion if you found yourself debilitated later in life.

I have mey Alan Keyes at the staw election in Olando the first year Clinton won the White House...I was very impressed with him and would not have a problem with him ever being President of USA. He is one the medis doesn't like so does that tell you something ????

I think that Alan Keyes has gotten a bum rap, largely because of the perception the main-stream media has created concerning him. I think he is a brilliant mind. I have seen him debate Alan Dershowitz, the result had Dershowitz ordering Alan Keyes to "Shut up!" and Dershowitz pleaded to the crowd to disregard things Keyes said because Keyes was not the big famous attorney that he himself (Dershowitz) was (like Keyes didn't deserve to occupy the same stage as him). I forget what the topic was, something to do with Constitutional Law. Dershowitz acted insulted that he had to argue against someone who wasn't ivy league. Keyes systemically disassembled Dershowitz. >>

I have NO doubt Terri would have improved significantly. In fact, I believe she still can.

The outrage of this case, IS HINO has been allowed to DENY and FORBID therapy and threatment to Terri. The horror of that is beyond words.

A few years ago, when I first started admiring Alan Keyes, there was some web page you could go to and read any number of lectures that Keyes had delivered at various venues. I read many of them, and the man writes and speaks as eloquently as any man alive. I have always been disappointed that he does not do better in presidential primary contests.
