A distinctly pro-abortion course on reproductive issues debuts at the Chicago Theological Seminary, but many pro-life groups think it's neither scriptural nor theological.
The curriculum, called "Theology and Reproductive Choice," will focus on feminist theological perspectives, pastoral care, and philosophy and ethics. It's part of an effort, according to the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice (RCRC), to prepare the next generation of pro-abortion clergy.
Parker Williamson of the Presbyterian Lay Committee called it nothing more than "an apologetic for abortion."
"Calling it a theology is really a misnomer," Williamson said. "There's no 'theos' or God in it. God, for the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, is nothing more than the imperial self. It's all about me. It's all about my choice."
Dr. Randall O'Bannon of the National Right to Life Committee said there is no truly objective material in the course.
"I don't really see anything here that talks about the sanctity of life or of fetal development," he noted. "I don't see anything here that talks about our obligations to love our neighbor."
Too often, he added, the phrase "reproductive choice" is merely a euphemism for people not being responsible for their choices.
"(It's a code word for the fact) that one can simply create a human life and then, for whatever reason one feels is relevant, can decide to destroy that human life," O'Bannon said.
Neither the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice nor Chicago Theological Seminary returned calls for comment.
Gee, unable to defend the course and it's motives perhaps?
My priest told me last week that if Jesus didn't mention it, then it's not incumbent upon us to obey it. (He specifically mentioned that Jesus had nothing to say about abortion). I stopped before asking him if it was okay to run over my neighbour's boom box with my snowmobile, because Jesus never mentioned boom boxes or snowmobiles... or more seriously, whether suicide bombing was okay because Jesus never mentioned that either. Instead I just went home.
You should have just gone out and slashed the priest's tires. Jesus never said anything about tires.
Those people are in serious danger of the ultimate zot.
well? did you run over the boom box? ;)
Now...this guy needs to start his own darn church. "if Jesus didn't mention it, YOU don't have to worry about it!". cool! ( / sarcasm )

He can call it The Assumption of OKedness.
You need to confront your preacher...if he doesn't change, you need another church.
You do have to wonder, however - who are they kidding? Is this just more Michael Moorism, fleecing the liberal sheeple? I can't imagine who else would pay for such sessions or pamphlets. Or is this, as they say, a continuing effort to corrupt and promote particularly Protestant preachers in the 'mainstream' faithless denominations? If so, no wonder service attendance is off, even though a vast majority of Americans claim minimally to 'believe in God'.
actually, as I rethink this, we almost have a church already that is The Assumption of OKedness...the Universalist Unitarian. Crikey...some neighbors of ours go there and it's impossible to figure out what their belief system is....everything you believe, feel, do, experience, etc., is "OK".
Where I hear this most often is that Christ is never specifically quoted in the bible as speaking on homosexuality.
The truth is that Christ Himself is God, and the bible mentions homosexuality specifically in both the Old and New Testaments. Moreoever, Christ said:
" Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.
Matthew 5:17
I suspect your priest has some very serious sin issues in his own life and is trying to justify himself.
"The thief's purpose is to steal, kill, and destroy." (John 10:10). I suspect the RCRC is one of Satan's more brilliant inventions.
When I was a child, my mother would attend Unitarian "services" and send us to "Sunday school." As far as I can tell, the Unitarians don't actually believe in anything. It's a whole "church" centered around (as far as I can tell) rejecting God, embracing atheism, yet going through all the motions of worshipping.
No, I'm not a Unitarian. Despite my mother's efforts, I ended up believing in God anyway.
I think you need to pray for your priest.I think psalms 109:8 would be appropriate.I pray that one for Ted Kennedy now and then.
RIGHT TO LIFE
2270 Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person -- among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life.

I have come to the firm conclusion that the moment they mix feminist and theology in a sentence, you know what you're going to get...and I doubt it's the words of life...
The reason you can't find any belief system from a UUC is because......ta da! There isn't any!!! It's the penultimate religion for New Agers - the only tenant in their philosophy is 'There are no tenants' - anything you believe is just all right! It REALLY reduces stress and eliminates guilt.
Philosophy and ethics are an essential part of a fuller, more mature, understanding of the nuances of lying and killing.
Find another priest. The Bible emphatically states that not everything is in it.
The RCRC and their demonically inspired supporters will reap what they're sowing - in HELL.
Because that is *EXACTLY* where they are going.
Jesus was very clear about how He viewed little children, and these abominable excuses for human beings are advocates for murdering the littlest of those children.
That is because whether willingly, or in ignorance, they are serving their true master, Satan himself, who has come to kill, rob and destroy all that he can, for his time is short.
