Full-frontal images of a vagina are available on cable Sunday night, but they come at a price. You have to watch a bloody, hairy baby burst through that vagina, and before that you have to watch the little creature in utero, growing in all its Operation Rescue propaganda detail, in the National Geographic Channel's latest unveiling of the hideous miracle of life.
"In the Womb" is actually a cool, beautiful movie, a celebration of computer imaging and the 4-D ultrasound. It exhibits a minimum of politics, probably because it appears to have been made in England, where the acknowledgement that humans in the womb are complex, dreaming, pain-experiencing, memory-having, walk-practicing, music-enjoying entities does not instantly put you in the same camp as doctor assassins and purveyors of "The Silent Scream."
Instead of politics, what "In the Womb" delivers is the majesty of science. The filmmakers follow an unnamed woman through her pregnancy, down to the smallest observable detail; where this one pregnancy - the one that results in a live birth at the end of the film - fails to tell the whole story, images of other embryos and fetuses, some computer-generated, are brought in.
The results include a stirring set of images, and a number of revelations. The first is that the path of sperm from testes to egg, which has until recently been a mystery, may be determined by smell: sperm may be able to scent out the egg. The second is that fetuses start practicing walking while in the womb; the stepping reflex is visible as early as 11 weeks into the pregnancy.
The third revelation is that babies can recognize their mothers' voices prenatally, and even reflect an appreciation of their mothers' rhythms in their own postnatal cries....snip

Amen, Amen
May it be so, in Jesus name...
Ping.
From the National Geographic write-up of the same program (not NYTimes review):
"You just see the whoops of joy when the fetus does something like blink," he said. "That's a very powerful impact."

That first paragraph is more than a doozy.
It's hard to believe that someone who actually 'survived' the process they so horribly describe, actually wrote it.
That first paragraph is a sickener.
On SO many levels.
He was heavily involved in a series of daily People For Peace vigils outside St Paul's Cathedral in early 2003 denouncing the Iraqi war.
This from another article. Typical leftist thug.
Boy, is that true. I thought I was alone, crazy or both back before 1980...Ronald Reagan showed us all a sweet, intelligent, compassionate man could also be a conservative. We weren't all knuckle-dragging Cro-Magnons.
He went right over the MSM's heads direct to the people. Today, the internet allows us to speak directly to each other...the 'silent' majority no more...!
Oops. Wrong thread. Darned Firefox tabs ...
I don't know what kind of mind it takes to consider any miracle -- let alone that of life itself -- "hideous." Messy, sure. Not for the squeamish, all right. But "hideous???"
And that's coming from a guy who watched his son almost all the way through a natural delivery, only to be rushed to an emergency C-section. Which I also attended.
I was there at my daughter's birth and it was pretty cool. Now my wife and I have a wonderful, cute little baby that looks like both of us. I can't imagine anyone finding an excuse for abortion.
F*** ABORTION!
Plus the review starts out with "Full-frontal images of a vagina are available on cable Sunday night, but they come at a price" as though it is a porno flick. It comes across as a not-so-veiled hostility - but political correctness probably calls for that.
Some people insist on constructing ugliness in every beautiful thing. In so doing they become incredibly ugly.
How DARE you show what's actually going on in the uterus, you propagandizing bastards! How DARE you show us a living fetus, when we all know it's just a mass of tissue, waiting to be aborted. How DARE you introduce the masses to the fact abortion murders a living being. This is propaganda, pure and simple! No one should ever be allowed to see a fetus as alive. That'll ruin everything we've worked so hard for, all the years we've spent trying to make it easier for a woman to murder her baby simply because said baby may interfere with her social or business life. All the years we've spent making abortion just another, albeit quite late, form of birth control, will be out the window. This cannot be allowed to air on broadcast TV. People will see the truth, and don't you know, there are times when the truth is just too much? We, the press will determine when they need the truth and when they need to be told what to think. How DARE you infringe upon our territory! This is just totally unacceptable.
I could be wrong as I won't sign up to read the rest but that's my impression from what's here
Un-F*ckingbelieveable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How did this moron get her job? Where the hell was the copy editor?
So I should jump because there is a vagina on TV " gee we got porn like cable come and see.....!?!?
Why this resistance to the basic beauty and awareness of her own womanhood? That part that exists regardless of her opinions held. She seems self-hating but too stupid to realize it.
I have always felt that kids in sex ed. should be shown every stage of pregnacy with like a calender device based on nine months . So they would know that based on your actions this is what you have in one day, one week, one month, two months etc....
What? Does the stork come thru the ipod now?!
Why the herculean efforts to remain ignorant of facts, simple facts, when we live in the INFORMATION ERA.
What? It's just not nicey nicey?
"In case it hasn't been posted, here is a link to a preview of the show on tomorrow night. It looks like a keeper."
Stunning pictures and video, thanks for the link. It is like one is looking into outer space but it is "inner space." This makes the reviewer's comments about "hideous" all the more bizarre. "Wondrous" would be more like it.
BUMP!!
