The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

U.S. works 'day and night' to rein in al-Qaida
Full Story

WASHINGTON - Prompted by new intelligence indicating Osama bin Laden reached out to the most feared terrorist in Iraq, President Bush charged Thursday that "al-Qaida still hopes to attack us on our own soil."

"Recently, we learned that Osama bin Laden has urged the terrorist Zarqawi to form a group to conduct attacks outside Iraq, including here in the United States," Bush said at the swearing-in of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff.

The president vowed, "We're working every day and night to dismantle (bin Laden's) network and to bring him to justice."

Good morning Everyone.

Karl, thanks for that link. I'm listening now and it's quiet.

Cindy, thanks for the wishes of rest. I did sleep well.

Starting another day. I've got my extra strong coffee, my bagel w/ Philly cream cheese and FR. Great start to the day. Going to dig around some and see if I can find out what was going on in South Riding yesterday. That is bugging me.

Prayers offered for a normal, quiet, peaceful, boring day....

Hey guys, about to get started on work but wanted to look around at all my old bookmarks to put some info together... i came across this
http://www.fbi.gov/pressrel/pressrel01/2b.jpg
a picture of the original anthrax letters from 2001...
what strikes me as scary is that the letter clearly states

"THIS IS NEXT"

well, do you think that times up, and those anthrax scares yesterday are a sign of things to come, a la "THIS IS NEXT"...

The date on that letter shows 09-11-01. I believe "This is next" refers to the anthrax attack of which that letter was a part, immediately following the 9/11 attacks.

Just out of curiosity...

If the Israelis in Canada, were to say that the muslims were a "legitimate target"....

Would *that* be a hate crime??

(Purely rhetorical)

my opinion/speculation: they closed out the sept 11 attacks with the anthrax scare... that died dfown, and now they bring BACK the anthrax scare to open way for new attacks, like a continuation of a movie(usually a sequal of a movie opens up by re-playing the ending to part 1...)a lil odd, i know, but you never know whats on the minds of these psychos... guess we'll have to wait and see.. on the same lines, bunny at freedomwatchers got another email from EOM.... take it with a grain of salt but the message is odd... From: "Anonymous Sender" A Subject: miss bunny do you know Date: Sat, 12 Mar 2005 07:53:54 +0000 (UTC) do you hear of posion dusts amerikkans breathe deepen death come fast now, that was recieved by bunny on the 11th, but the mailer's date says the 12th... what is odd is that WHO KNEW about the anthrax incidents before monday? i didnt, but i guess i just wasnt following the news maybe?...

I was thinking along the same lines as you, actually, and the cautious part of me has filled the gas tank and checked my clips. The rest of me, though, is praying that it's not so.

Americans' Tax Dollars Fund the Wahhabi Lobby
March 15, 2005
Americans' Tax Dollars Fund the Wahhabi Lobby In a startling article today, "Federal Money Goes to Controversial Muslim Group," Sherrie Gossett reveals for Accuracy in Media that the Bush administration has sent $50,000 to the Islamic Society of North America, a leading organization in the Wahhabi lobby's American division.

Mohamed El-sanousi, director of community outreach and communications for ISNA, told Gossett his organization received grants in 2003 and 2004 from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration of the Department of Health and Human Services. The money did not save anyone from substance abuse or improve mental health, however. Instead, it went to teach other members of the Wahhabi lobby how to milk the government: "We used the grants to train Muslim community leaders in how to apply for grants to do social services," El-sanousi explained.

Extension Agents Warn of Agro-Terrorism
http://www.wtoctv.com/Global/story.asp?S=3084974&nav=0qq6XYWV

When you think about homeland security, it's usually the airports and borders and big cities. But what could terrorists do if they hit the farms that raise our food? We talked with some familiar people who now have a role in protecting crops and cattle.

For years, county extension agents have helped Georgia farmers grow their crops. Now they're on the frontlines of homeland security, trying to convince those farmers they could be a target.

"We start telling them what can happen if stuff fell in the wrong hands," said Tim Varnadore of Jeff Davis County. "It opens their eyes."

Between livestock and produce, rural Georgia helps feed the nation, and an attack to contaminate the food supply is an all too real threat.

"When they supposedly found Bin Laden's cave, one of the ones he was hiding in a couple of years ago, one of the most common pamphlets found in the cave was University of Georgia agriculture information," said Danny Stanaland of Bacon County.

Over the next year, they'll train local farmers, fertilizer companies and others how to keep a better eye on problems at home. The challenge is balancing the danger of real threats with the economic disaster of a false alarm.

"We want to be vigilant in what we do, but at the same time we don't want rumors getting out of what could happen," said Mike Dollar of Evans County.

With so many people working in agriculture, even an empty threat would hurt. As Wes Harris of Bulloch County noted, "I think that would be the terrorists' target more, a scare that created an economic disaster rather than a physical one."

Agents say, just like in a neighborhood watch, as more people keep their eyes open, less can happen. In each community, they'll go over ways to watch everything from livestock to fertilizers that could be used in explosives.

They say the toughest thing is getting people to realize the everyday things around us could be used to hurt so many people.

Musharraf: Pakistan lost bin Laden's trail:
http://www.expressnewsline.com/phpnews2.php?action=fullnews&showcomments=1&id=554

Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf has said his country's intelligence services have lost track of Osama bin Laden.

In an interview with the BBC published Tuesday, Musharraf said Pakistani forces had their strongest indication about bin Laden's location eight to 10 months ago.Since that time they have lost his trail, although they believe he is still in the area.

Musharraf said that when Pakistan launched a large offensive in the tribal belt on the Afghan border last year, bin Laden fled.

Musharraf also said that with the recent killing of Pakistan's most wanted militant, Abdullah Mehsud -- which is yet to be confirmed -- Pakistani forces have more hope of making a breakthrough in the tribal area along the Afghan border, where bin Laden and his deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri, are believed to be hiding and where Pakistan experiences the most resistance in operations against al-Qaida.

Counter-terrorism expert Bob Newman on Monday told a conference in Dubai that bin Laden attempted to communicate with al-Qaida's front man in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, a month ago through a letter. That letter was seized when a ground courier in Pakistan was intercepted, the Pakistani site Dawn reported Tuesday.

I don't have time to scan the thread, but have you all seen this? FOX will have a story on shortly about the easy spread of pneumonic plague in public restrooms.

Security report outlines terror scenarios

LARA JAKES JORDAN

Associated Press

WASHINGTON - The agency charged with protecting homeland security developed an elaborate, confidential report to alert states to a host of terror-strike scenarios, but the document was inadvertently posted on several states' public Web sites before being removed.

The department has been working for a year on a National Planning Scenarios plan that outlines a number of plausible attacks - including by nerve gas, anthrax, pneumonic plague and truck bomb.

The report, still confidential, was requested by a presidential directive in December 2003 and will be made public in upcoming months, Homeland Security spokesman Brian Roehrkasse said Tuesday. It was inadvertently posted on Internet sites of several states, including Hawaii, before it was taken down, Roehrkasse said. The other states were not immediately identified.

Homeland Security "has developed a number of scenarios that will aid federal, state and local homeland security officials in developing plans to become more prepared to prevent and respond to an act of terrorism, should it occur," Roehrkasse said.

The plan also "will help us better target our efforts and resources in improving the nation's preparedness," he said.

Officials said there was no credible indication that such specific attacks were being planned.

The draft plan was first reported Tuesday night on the Internet site of The New York Times.

The report does not hypothesize where such attacks would take place, Roehrkasse said. "The overall goal is to increase the overall baseline preparedness of all states and cities throughout the country," he said.

Besides identifying possible types of attacks, Roehrkasse said the report also estimates how many deaths and amount of economic damage the attacks would cause.

According to the Times, they include:

_Blowing up a chlorine tank, killing 17,500 people and injuring more than 100,000.

_Spreading pneumonic plague in the bathrooms of an airport, sports arena and train station, killing 2,500 and sickening 8,000 worldwide.

_Infecting cattle with foot and mouth disease in several places, resulting in hundreds of millions of dollars in losses.

But a nuclear bomb, an exploding liquid chlorine tank or a widespread and prolonged aerosol anthrax spray ranked among the most devastating attacks outlined in the report, Roehrkasse said.

An estimated 350,000 people could be exposed to an anthrax attack by terrorists spraying the biological weapon from a truck driving through five cities over two weeks, according to the report. An estimated 13,200 people could die.

The report also includes scenarios of natural disasters to hit major cities, including a 7.2 magnitude earthquake and a Category 5 hurricane.

I gotta ask. . .
If "they" has access to athrax, which we are led to believe.
And "they" can turn it into aerosol with a simple trip to the hardware store.
And "they" want mass casualities. . .
What are they waiting for? Has DHS been this successful?
