"In the wake of the reports that 1000 Chinese separatists have been trained by Al-Qaeda, the Chinese government has launched a war on terror by establishing the world's largest centre for counter-terrorism."

And I'm sure this centre will be used solely to fight Islamic extremism. /sarcasm off

Your post is very interesting. If true, Bush should consider that as a smoking gun and let Taiwan declare independence.

I contend that Pakistan is far more fundamentalist than Iran, and the US supports Pakistan.
You are confusing people with government. Pakistanis hate US, the average Iranian does not. Even conservatives who have gone to Iran have noticed this, which is why the mullahs are so scared of the younger, US-friendlier generation. And why they go to such lengths to suppress democracy.

In contrast, anyone going to Pakistan will notice the absolute hate for the US among the general public.

Musharraf will be assassinated one day, and then you will find out which the most fundamentalist country in the world is.

Correct me if I am wrong, but weren't the Chinese on our side when Afghanistan was the main theater in the war on terror? I remember hearing that they wouldn't allow any Moslems to fly on their airliners (how's THAT for racial profiling?), and that they feared Taliban ideas, warriors and equipment would spill over into Xinjiang. Afghanistan's eastern border touches China, after all.

That changes nothing. China is an enemy. While they "fight" terrorism they are preparing their military to face off against Taiwan and the US.

This is the rare case of the Enemy of my Enemy is still an Enemy.

No one suggests this changes anything. When we go to war, we have to be sure why we are fighting. When we fight the Chinese communists, we have to make sure the cause is freedom and democracy and not islamic fundamentalism.

The US supports Musharraf. Now you are confusing people with government.

Musharraf will be assassinated one day, and then you will find out which the most fundamentalist country in the world is.

I hope not. That is exactly why we support Musharraf, to prevent the creation of another Islamic fundamentalist state.

Wow, I didn't realize the US was giving Mushy the billions of dollars. I thought it was for Pakistan. Well, what do I know. I guess I made a mistake by going to school. Should have become a tin pot dictator of a fundy country instead - could have just "convinced" unca Sam to gift me a couple of billions too.

You do know that Red China is Pakistan's closest ally, right?

With this, China has joined the roll-of-honour alongside the US in its fight against the war on global terror. The counter-terrorism headquarters will be located in Beijing.

Cool!

Yeah, they whole of Central Asia is (for the most part) Moslem, and al-Qaeda and related Islamofascist groups engaged in activity, even in China. Not for long though.

Sure. Being of Indian descent, with my father having fought both the Pakis (who had US supplied weapons) and the Chinese, I am very aware of their nexus. But ask yourself: who has helped Pakistan over the years more. US or China? How much aid has US given to Pakistan over the past 50 years, and how much has China?
By the way, the Pakis play the US well. They gave land to the Chinese (in Kashmir) and now even a naval base.
What did US get? Taliban? Bin Ladin? Oh sure, they cooperated after 9/11. Kind of like if I inject you with renal cell carcinoma and once it grows to kill you, I say, here, let me help you with a smidgen of IL-2.
