A case secular humanists will lose

It seems to me as an immigrant that God in America is the most controversial figure. He has been fought for and fought against. He has been lobbied and lobbed at in the court halls of the country. America's religiosity is an indelible impression for every visitor. Here science and spirituality weave seamlessly into the matrix of life. Trips to space and trips to church are a common happenstance.

Visiting America in the 1800s, Frenchman Alexis de Tocqueville remarked: "I sought for the greatness and genius of America in her commodious harbors and her ample rivers, and it was not there; in her fertile fields and boundless prairies, and it was not there; in her rich mines and her vast world commerce, and it was not there. Not until I went to the churches of America and heard her pulpits aflame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power."

Living in America as an immigrant Indian, I cannot but bespeak of America's political democracy rooted in religion. India is religious, but America is religiously religious. Innumerable churches dot the country like Athens of ancient Greece. The coins jingle in the pocket reminding, "In God We Trust." Million-dollar churches and corporate offices compete for people and space. Life in Mars and life in heaven mark kitchen-table talk. Ivy leagues and seminaries thrive. There is no area of life where the omniscience of God is not discussed. It would be monumental insanity to think of an American existence devoid of God.

The Founding Fathers of America seem to me like sages of the east invoking God in the governance of the nation. Secular humanists who are mightily striving to remove God from the public office are at best fighting a losing battle. . . .

This Indian gets it.

This "Indian" doesn't.

Read Wm.J.Federer "When tolerance Backfires" on WND. ANd as with this piece I am reminded of the Biblical accounts --how The People of that Book were instructed to love the Lord with all their Heart soul and mind--and cautioned to
NOT take others into their tent. When they came to the
Promised land they were to push out the inhabitants-to remove them from the land God had given His people. They
chose disobediance and a humanistic tolerance of some
and these were to become a prick or goad and remain troublesome. America has chosen the same rebellious path.
And we are now reaping the reward for what we have planted.

"God is dead" -- Nietzsche. "Nietzsche is dead" -- God. If secular humanists are bent on bugging God out, they might as well reserve the epithet for their tombstones.

Needs Repeating.
