Report Urged Action Against General for Speeches
New York Times ^ | March 4, 2005 | Douglas Jehl

WASHINGTON, March 3 - The Pentagon general who likened the war against Islamic militants to a battle against Satan violated several Pentagon rules in delivering a series of speeches at religious-oriented events, according to an inspector general's report made available on Thursday.

The report, issued last August but not previously released, recommended that the officer, Lt. Gen. William G. Boykin of the Army, be subjected to "appropriate corrective action." The Army said in October that it had taken action against General Boykin, but it declined to provide details or to say what rules he had violated.

General Boykin, the deputy under secretary of defense for intelligence, created a controversy in fall 2003 when tapes and transcripts of some of his appearances in uniform before evangelical Christian groups first came to public light. At the time, he apologized to "those who have been offended by my statements."

The report on Aug. 5, 2004, by the Pentagon's inspector general reviewed 23 appearances by General Boykin at religious-oriented events beginning in January 2002. It concluded that he had violated rules by failing to clear the content of his speeches with security and public affairs personnel.

In addition, General Boykin had "on several occasions" failed to make clear that the views he was expressing were his alone, and not necessarily those of the Pentagon, the report said.

In one instance, the report said, General Boykin failed to disclose that he had been reimbursed for his travel by a nongovernmental source. But the report said that he had "made good faith efforts" to consult with legal advisers about his speaking activities.

At the same time, however, the report said General Boykin's wearing of his uniform during his non-official appearances did not violate Army and Pentagon regulations.

The report was made available by the office of Representative John Conyers Jr. of Michigan, the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, who has demanded that General Boykin be reprimanded or reassigned.

I recommend that Gen. Boykin retire, settle near Ft. Hood Texas, and run for public office against the only surviving Democrat after redistricting, Chet Edwards. He would win in a cakewalk, and then the NYT could have a case of the vapors because he would be in DC making his speeches on the floor of the House. I like it!

Appropriate corrective action?  Okay.  How bout spending each Saturday watching Patton until he learns George C. Scott's lines by heart?

I'm not sure those that exist in the American Pantheon of great military leaders could have survived in todays kinder gentler military. These folks should go back and review some some of the speeches and sayings of Admiral Halsey. Today's military would have cashiered him in 1941.

No. See, you missed the whole point.

The Times is upset because he wasnt' horse whipped!

The 'corrective action' is done, and they weren't let in on it, so, to them, it's not enough.

All I have to say is: TOUGH!

We should run one of these whining, Euro-weasel loving NYT propagandists through a Marine Corps bootcamp. Talk about apoplexy.

Then again, some things that happen in the real world shouldn't be revealed to New York City males who carry purses and smell of tofu and Saab fumes.

Nope.  Didn't miss the point.  Either you missed mine, or I was not as clearly sarcastic as I meant to be.

This race-baiting, America-hating jackass needs a good 'ol country ass whuppin'. Please pardon my speech but every time our troops are denigrated or our President called names or us Conservatives Satan-ized . . . this punk Coyners and/or Elijah Cummings and/or Maxine Waters are always in the picture waving fists and foaming at the mouth.

I'm sick and tired of these traitorous punks getting a pass because of the color of their skin.

This was obviously an in-house report not intended to be dissiminated to the public yet Conyers knows no one will take him on. Do I have a problem with the report being made public? No . . . IF ALL SIMILAR REPORTS WERE HANDLED THE SAME WAY!!

Where are the Democratic Computer files the Pubbie lawyer got into trouble JUST FOR READING? He didn't hand them out like Conyers does . . . he just read them. The files weren't protected in any way so anyone and everyone had access to them . . . yet the American Public can't see them!

Where are the files on Sandy "Sockgate" Berger? Does Conyers actually think that what this General did was worse than a former NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISOR stealing and destroying classified files? Probably . . . after all Liberals aren't known for fairness or clear thinking.

Doesn't this General have a right to some kind of Privacy? He's already been reprimanded. Isn't that enough? Why is it that just Conservative Military folks are pilloried in public?

If he'd been a Gay General caught plying his sexual acts of choice in a non-military setting, would Conyers have released the investigatory report of this? Don't ask, don't tell, remember? Oh yeah, that only applies to Liberal constituencies.

Our PC-world has tied our hands behind our backs so that we're supposed to feel uncomfortable when we criticize Blacks, Gays, Lesbians, Abortionists, blah, blah, blah.

I say . . . ENOUGH ALREADY!!

The MSM presstitutes blast the Pubbies when they even "think" the Pubbies have released information not meant for the public. Here, the New Yawk Slimes admits who did it and thinks nothing of it.

Again . . . I have no particular problem with the report being released. I think there is far, far too much secrecy in government as there is . . . BUT MAKE IT A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD! Release all the similar reports as well, not just the ones that damage conservatives.

BTW . . . has Lurch signed the 180 yet? No? Then I'm sure the New Yawk Slimes and the other MSM whores are dogging his every step, right?

I'm sick of this PC BS. John Conyers is a traitorous, race-baiting, America-hating punk. If that upsets the Politically Correct crowd to hear it from a white, redneck, Conservative, God-fearing, abortion-hating, gun-loving, pro-military Texan . . . that's just tough. I for one will no longer be muzzled as our domestic enemies continue to trash the things I hold dear.

Black is the color of night . . . not an impregnable shield from criticism.

There was a time when those who espoused such behavior led the charge to execute their recommendations. We sit at our keyboards every single day and tell everyone else on FR what they should do about this or that, but none of us ever does it because we are afraid of the consequences.

The Revolutionary War and the Boston Tea Party were carried out by men who were more angered at the status quo and the treatment they received by their government, than they were afraid of the consequences.

The point being, where is our breaking point? When do we decide that the activities of our government AND its representatives is more than we choose to withstand?

I'm already past MY breaking point . . . although my nephew ordered me to apologize for my blunt comments and choice of words. So . . . to you and anyone else who read my post . . . I apologize if my words offended anyone.

I promised my nephew I'd post an apology and I did but NOW THAT I HAVE . . .

Just a little background . . . My Beloved nephew just returned from Iraq. He's the closest thing I'll ever have to a son.

Anyway, some friends and family came over last night to see him. My nephew took photos, kept a diary, and even made scrapbooks of the news he thought was important. It was the most enthralling two-hour presentation I've ever seen in my life. I was so excited after he finished that, after everyone else went to bed, I stayed up all night reading, re-reading, then crying with absolute rage while I pored over his scrapbooks the third time.

I'm still furious. Anyone who thinks our soldiers don't know what's going on at home when they're in the field of battle are CRAZY! And anyone who thinks our soldiers don't hear the comments made by traitors like Ted Kennedy and John Conyers and Carl Levin and Maxine Waters and . . . and . . . the Liberal list of traitors is endless.

AND THE SOLDIERS WHO ARE FIGHTING AND DYING FOR US HEAR EVERY TRAITOROUS WORD SPOKEN!!

I counted up EVERY news article, then separated them by "Good" news and "Bad" news. Want to take a guess as to what the percentage was??

22 to 1!!!!!

Need I say which one led the pack? I thought not.

And dammit to hell . . . I just can't help myself! I get so frickin' furious I just want to . . . want to . . .

I'll just say this . . . the worst of the worst had best be glad I'm old, fat, and disabled or they would have a real buzz-saw on their hands.

I spent three hours begging my nephew to let me write up a "Vanity" thread for Free Republic. I told him my fellow FReepers would go absolutely bonkers if they knew what was going on. I know, intellectually, we "think" we know how bad things are in the MSM . . . but, trust me, we don't have a clue. If you know someone who has been to Iraq, ask them to see their "REAL" scrapbooks . . . not the ones they give to Mom and Dad . . . but the REAL ones they keep to give to their kids sometime in the future. My nephew tells me nearly everyone he knew kept one. Read the brutally honest truth of what our soldiers have to go through and, believe me, EVERY FReeper will be just as angry as I am.

Alas . . . my nephew won't let me drop the hammer . . . not yet, not until "it's all over and no one will get into trouble." He said I wasn't even supposed to read some of his stuff.

One day though . . . one day. Us family members have been compiling all of our emails from our loved ones and there will come a day when the emails and all these "real" scrapbooks will see the light of day.

In the meantime, I will no longer give ANY politician a free pass . . . whether they be a RINO or a Liberal. Anyone who endangers our troops is fair game . . . whether they be black, brown, red, yellow, purple, white, Gay, Lesbian, rich, poor, or any combination there-of.

I can't do much . . . but I know thousands of FReepers who can.

Geede,

I understand your feelings. I'm a Vietnam vet. We heard, saw and knew the same things about that war that your nephew heard and saw in Iraq. Please let him know that most Americans are grateful for his service and proud of his accomplishments in Iraq.

Thanks to John Kerry and the traitorous MSM, we Vietnam Vets never received the same kind of consideration. Today, when people thank me for my service, etc., it just rings false and insincere. I went through too much at the time and for years afterward.

But the question remains. What does it take, anymore, for enough Americans to get angry enough to express their anger in a way that our politicians are ready to make PERMANENT, fundamental changes to keep their jobs? Have we become too complacent? Are we too cowed by authority that we will exercise our (remaining) First Amendament right, but go no further?

Here on FR, we express a lot of dissatisfaction with many of the things going on in the political arena. But, we often don't do anything more than that.

In the meantime, a minority of politicians and Americans make a mockery of our most cherished national documents; the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. And, we let them.
