Lots of information pouring in:
13:04 Sgrena contradicts the US: the car wasn't speeding
13:11 americans knew we were coming -they were 700 meters away from the airport, which meant they passed already all the controls
13:19 shooting took place while italians had the italian government (Palazzo Chigi ) in the mobile phones

You have to know that we are really sorry for this story. Giuliana Sgrena is not an Italian Fellow of mine. She's a supporter of Islam and she's against you and Mr. Bush. So, don't care what she says!

So, don't care what she says!I don't. Believe me, I don't. Berlusconi had to call President Bush and the President had to say this is unfortunate so the diplomatic niceties have been observed.

The responsible 3rd U.S. infantry division in Baghdad is offering an explanation now, too: The car in which Sgrena was to be taken to the airport by Italian special agents, was driving towards the roadblock at high speed and had repeatedly ignored calls to slow down, I have no sympathy for that kind of stupidity.

And surely Italian special agents know what to do at a military checkpoint.

A military "expert" on the Today show thought that Berlusconi understands, but has to posture for his local peeps. Also Bush understands Berlusconi must posture.

I'd still like to know what possessed those people to attempt to run that checkpoint. If Berlusconi pipes down after this, I'll bet it will have been something pretty bad.

And surely Italian special agents know what to do at a military checkpoint. We lowly civilians sure do. ;-) I see no reason why anyone associated with the coalition would be so stupid.

I have to wonder if this woman and her fellow communistos set this incident up to try to cause a falling out to happen between the U.S. and Italy. Perhaps to get the Italian population to become angry and cause Italian troops to pull out of Iraq. She and her type are so against the war I would believe they would try any kind of stunt to achieve that.
To: Allegra
I can't believe it was stupidity. Which makes me very curious about the real reason.

This is probably just a case of a liberal who thinks that the rules (slow down at checkpoint) don't apply to them. "I'm a VIP and my motorcade doesn't slow down or stop for anything, I'm late for a plane."
Wait, didn't Hillary do the same thing? Yes, I believe she did!
To: Truth666
We've got to remember what "news" organization this woman worked for--she's a died in the wool commie, and she might feel there is some benefit to making the US look bad. I don't trust this version of the story.

Hillie and company did, and injured one of the LEOs there while doing it. But she wasn't in a war zone when she did it. I hope we found out the reason they tried to run the checkpoint.

Worse than that, and behind this entire mess is the fact that she is a anti-war activist journalist, who likely staged this entire event.Wasn't it just a few days ago that she was shown begging for her life? And then suddenly she is rescued?
Yes, I'm wearing a tinfoil feather in my thinking cap on this one. :o)

Yeah, and you add to that, this obvious attempt to blow through a check point. It fits a hatred for the U.S. and a love for the Jihadist.

Berlusconi is under terrific pressure in his country for his support of the Iraqi war. He will make nice nice to the communists because he has no choice.
