I thought the Freep community would get a kick out of the ravings of the Los Alamos, NM village idiot. This is a copy of a letter to the Editor of the local small-town newspaper, the Los Alamos Monitor.

"The new Reich"

"Dear Editors",

"TIME magazine has added to its list of evil persons, along with Hitler, our own President Bush. TIME has recognized as Person of the Year our very own "Little Hitler". Few have been the editors who have commented on this unusual event".

"An American Reich of illiterate vandalism has been established with the consent of a majority of super patriotic, God fearing, homophobic, abortion mongering voters. There has been a willingness to be deceived. Our Little Hitler has surrounded himself with a coterie of persons of shadowy past and criminal convictions".

"Their covert and overt assassination and killing experiences are valuable assets in the New Reich. There is no honor among thieves. Yesterday's friends are tomorrow's enemies. Secrecy rules".

"Our Little Hitler proclaims a preemptive defense and demands allegiance of all: You are either with us, or you are against us. Criticism is an offense against the New Reich. Editors are partial to such demands".

"Thousands of ships by sea and air have been launched just to kill another man. Our Little Hitler is advised by God. Support our troops. No mistakes have been made".

"Politicians are subservient. No appointment is too rash to be rejected. The well-being and common good of the citizenry is decried as Communism and as a weakness".

"The common man, infatuated with wine, sports and sex believes. Slow are most to the proper course of action. Be courageous! Resist! Oppose! Teach"!

"This draft dodging Texan proclaiming freedom and democracy has fomented an aggressive, illegal, perpetual war. His warriors have brought death, destruction and destabilization to a very poor country".

"The barbaric nature of the warriors striking out with military might from their near impregnable Green Zones rocks the conscience of the world. The native patriots who dare to resist the conqueror and occupier are defamed as "insurgents" and "terrorists".

"To sustain his aggression and the Department of Defense warmongers (think Defense Establishment), formerly the Department of War, our Little Hitler shakes the can before the poor for contributions for the already rich".

"Our Little Hitler proposes to gamble in the stock market with the assets of the old and feeble. Work creates wealth. America is not working. Jobs have been outsourced. Life threatening world environmental concerns are ignored".

"Intellectual and intelligent persons find it difficult to comprehend just how this arrogant, egotistical Little Hitler misleads the masses. His cries for defense, war and Homeland (Fatherland) convince the masses for war. It works in a republic or in any political venue. Exposed lies are shrugged off. A hardworking, two-family working class has no time to read and think. A tolerant society votes to sustain. Excellence and experience is out. Average is good enough".

"There is a contempt for civil rights promoted by cries for, "Security!", for us. Damned be the security of others".

"For 50 years IT kept the peace", deterrence, control by fear. It worked, until the fearless boarded airplanes and flew one into the seat of their discomfort, the Pentagon. Two others flew into tall buildings to get the attention of the warlords. They struck back".

"An incestuous nuclear family, enriched by a senior senator, promotes weapons of mass destruction in Los Alamos, New Mexico, the New Place of the New Home of the God of War. The clergy remains mute when questions of moral and social responsibility of the bombmakers are raised. If something dreadful, like a Nuclear Holocaust, happens and man does not survive on this planet, "Hey! Don't blame us. We are only doing the job that has been thrust upon us. We are only doing our duty. We will do our duty as long as our government asks us to. Mess with the United States and we will make your country go away." Good people are working on weapons of mass destruction instead of ennobling science. One Nobel in 60 years"!

I have known this man for decades, and grew up w/his kids.

I literally learned the phrase "Pompous Ass" from my father's reaction to his letters to the editor 40 years ago. He has got to be in his 80's by now.

He has made quite a lot of money buying and selling surplus Govt. property from Los Alamos National Laboratory, while all the time railing against anything that the Lab does.

I stopped counting when I got to an even dozen misspellings, grammatical errors, improper punctuation, misplaced modifiers and assorted miscellaneous mistakes that would have sent my ninth grade English teacher into orbit.

Is this a copy of the actual letter? This dope clearly hasn't learned anything about writing if he's been doing this for 40 years. He's as non-sequetor as Steven Wright.

Old Edward is a frigging nut. Most papers seem to have one or two resident leftie nut cases who write frequent letters to the editor. They are a source of entertainment to most people, but some gullible nitwits regard them as wise sages. One of the area papers here has a couple of these guys, one is sometimes run as a "guest columnist". Over the last couple of years, the guy has totally lost his marbles and his letters and columns are nothing but insane rants of his hatred for President Bush. He considers himself an intellectual and a humorist, but 98% of the people I know roll their eyes at the mention of his name, and everybody who knows him personally (including me) will tell you up front, "he's a nut". After one of his last incoherent outbursts (some rant about how anybody who believed Bush was probably also stupid enough to be a Christian), I e-mailed the editor and told him I thought he was taking advantage of his writer's mental illness and should have the decency to stop old Bob from embarrassing himself further. Never heard anything back, and Bob is still publicly crazy.
