8-year-old arrested after alleged trantrum(sic)

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) - Police arrested an 8-year-old boy who allegedly had a violent outburst in school, head-butting his teacher and kicking an assistant principal, when he was told he couldn't go outside to play with other students.

The 4-foot pupil was led away from Rawls Byrd Elementary School in handcuffs Tuesday and charged with disorderly conduct and assault and battery. "It's not something that happens every day," Maj. Stan Stout said of what could be the department's youngest arrest ever.

Stout said the chair-tossing, desk-turning outburst occurred after a teacher, and later the assistant principal, attempted to stop the boy from joining his classmates.

The child was later released to his parents.

That's tantrum for those of you who made it past the 3rd Grade... without getting pepper sprayed or tasered for being unruly, that is.

Can any of you older freepers imagine what the reaction would have been if you had acted this way in school when you were eight?

Yeh, I would have been paddled four times.

Once by the teacher, once by the principle, once by my mother (who was a teacher at the same school), and once by my father when I got home.
That would have been in addition to all the other punishments I would have received.

Yep...or, a little later, of a coach with notched wooden paddle.

Didn't take too many applications to figure out what acceptable behavior was.

...and if I forgot, I got to relearn it when I got home with a belt. No permanent marks...welts worked just fine.

I'm not that old, but I did act that way - and worse - at about the same age. Along with fairly regular tantrums, I demolished an entire classroom once as revenge for being punished for something I didn't do, and leapt out a classroom window during the middle of a class to get away from an abusive teacher. Never got arrested for it, though.

Well, back then this kid would most likely have been disciplined at home, starting at infancy...and if he wasn't behaving in school, they would have cured the problem way before he turned eight.

But, nowadays, parents don't want their children to dislike them, so they let them do whatever the hell they want to do. Discplining them might make their kids think they are mean.

And, nowadays, if the demon-child misbehaves, it's always the fault of the school, according to the Idiot Parents.

I don't blame the school for calling the cops...they really had no other options.

No tazer? Pfft.

If teachers could admonish punishment, who would need a "tazer"?
