Democrats Want to Ban 'Cop-Killer' Gun

Democrats in Congress have introduced a bill to outlaw a specific gun, which a leading gun control group describes as "a clear and present threat to police officers" and "a tragedy waiting to happen."

The bills introduced in the House and Senate on Thursday (H.R. 800/S. 397) would make it illegal for anyone except a police officer or military official to possess a Fabrique Nationale (FN) Five-seveN pistol, which can shoot armor-piercing bullets.

Gun control activists call the Five-seveN a "cop-killing gun," and they have enlisted the support of several law enforcement organizations in their effort to outlaw it. Steve Lenkart, the legislative director of the International Brotherhood of Police Officers, a labor union, has called the handgun "an assault weapon that fits in your pocket."

"We are very grateful to Senators [Frank] Lautenberg (D-N.J.), [Jon] Corzine (D-N.J.) and [Chuck] Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Congressman Eliot Engel (D-N.Y.) for introducing legislation in the Senate and the House of Representatives to outlaw this weapon," said Michael Barnes, president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence united with the Million Mom March.

According to a Brady Campaign press release, the "easily concealable, lightweight handgun" retails for about $1,000.

The Brady Campaign says it bought a Five-seveN from a Virginia gun dealer in January, and it says ammunition purchased with the gun was able to penetrate a protective vest. (Virtually all rifle ammunition will penetrate the most common types of body armor worn by police.)

According to the Brady Campaign, the National Rifle Association has defended the weapon and questioned the Brady Campaign's testing of the Five-seveN.

Michael Barnes suggested that NRA President Wayne LaPierre "put on a bullet proof vest, and we'll fire the weapon at him, and see what happens.

"He should put his body where his mouth is," Barnes said.

The NRA responded, calling it "pathetic to see the gun control lobby make hysterical statements to resurrect their failed political agenda."

The NRA noted that according to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the armor-piercing ammunition is only available to the military and police.

"The Brady Campaign continues to deceive the American people in their effort to ban firearm ownership by all law-abiding Americans," the statement said.

Stupdi question...Why can't every gun shoot "cop killer" bullets? Guns work the same don't they? It's the bullet that counts.

So if I won this gun I will be compelled to kill cops? The gun has a will of its own?

Was the General Lee a cop evading car? Or was it the Duke boys?

Any gun will kill a cop. It all depends on the accuracy of the shooter.

This is ridiculous legislation by socialists who cannot read the plain language of the 2nd amendment.

"The right to keep and bear arms SHALL NOT be INFRINGED."

What part of "not" are they having trouble with?

I used to have one of these FiveseveNs and it never magically sprouted legs and went out to hunt cops. There are plenty of other handguns that can penetrate Level II soft vests. Pretty much any rifle bigger than a .22LR will do it too.

I have an old .22 AR-7. It could be a cop-killer, or an anything-else killer. It's a firearm, after all. Although all it's killed in my hands are hordes of bottles.

But if someone wants to murder he very well may, and he won't need to spend alot of time and $$ looking for semi-mythical super guns.

Just think how much more hysterical they'll get when they find out it comes with a 20 round magazine.

Personally I think that when this gun is sold it should come with an iron cage to keep it in, heaven forbid it ever get loose and go on a rampage.

In the right circumstances, you could drown a cop with a water pistol.

Too late - I bought one last year, and not two weeks later the damned thing figured out how to open my safe, got out and went on a rampage in my liquor cabinet. It also rampaged its way through several 1-900 numbers on my phone, spending several thousand dollars to speak to 'nubile unholstered revolvers'. This gun needs to be banned!

Until all cops start wearing bullet proof face masks all guns are capable of copkilling... But thats already against the law; the very laws that these same filthy rats insist on undermining by waging against the death penalty.

Does anyone remember the Mighty Cop Killer Bullet bandied around by the Democrats a few years ago? Whatever happened to it? I suppose it's doing time at some federal pen.

You'd think these idiots would learn that anything about guns is not a winner, not in 2000, not in 2002, and not in 2004. But whoever said that the Dems are smart?

Maybe they feel a need to get their base feeling energized.

Maybe we should start referring to certain guns as 'Congress-killers.'

What are the cartridge specs? Isn't it a .22? Will it punch through vests more easily than a .41 Mag?
