I think the biggest reason that Socialist security is not going to change (except for the worse) is that the Federal Government will lose something they can borrow into. For those of you who don't know, there's no such thing as a "Social security trust fund" unless you want to call a file cabinet full of IOUs a "trust fund."
Money that was supposed to be saved for boomer's retirement has all been spent by Congress on other things. About 40 trillion dollars. But people are too busy reading about pet prescriprion glasses and Ward Churchill to care.

As much as I hate to say it, it sure looks like Bush's plan for private accounts within the hideous Social Security system are in trouble...Fox News had a good poll on this tonight - while Bush's private accounts were opposed by a plurality by about 47% to 41%, most of the opposition came from the over 55 group, who rejectd the idea by 56% to some lower number - looks like what Bush has to do is concentrate on convincing these old-timers that in fact none of their benefits will ever be cut under the plan.......

I beg your pardon, I am one of those old f---s, I guess. I am 82 years of age , this month, but AM NOT OLD!!!
I am a widow, live by myself , even shoveled snow today, live in north central N.C,.
I think what the SS GIVE us, we didn't earn it nor do we deserve, that is why my husband and I dropped out of AARP years ago.
I think we should stop the colas for a year, most of us DO NOT need them. If the elderly that do, call it welfare, because that is what SS payments are, and create extra payments or something for them.
My stepfather died in 1953, age 77, collected SS for about 5 years, received $17 a month , no colas, no Medicare that was the original promise so much a month nothing more nothing less.
The young people of today better listen to Bush and get out and vote to get a few more conservative Republican
Senators in.
I do know the more one had put into SS the less they receive in payments compared to those who put in the least.
Please don't say all those greedy old F---s, I really am not one.

Heard Neal's show yesterday and not one call came in from the greedy geezer's who are killing the President's plan to help their grandchildren. They are the Democrat AARP members who showed up and scared the hell out of the Republican congressmen during their recent break by whining at town meetings all over the country. Where were the conservative AARP members who could have countered them at these meetings? I hear crickets chirping...
