Border Patrol agents deliver baby in truck

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- A pregnant Mexican woman who got caught after crossing illegally into the United States gave birth in the back of a Border Patrol agent's vehicle.
The baby is an American citizen because she was born on U.S. soil. But her fate, and that of her mother, are still uncertain. The girl was born 2 1/2 months prematurely and weighed less than 2 pounds.
She was named Sarai Marisol in honor of Marisol Cantu, one of the agents who found her mother.
The woman told authorities she had crossed the border with a group led by a smuggler but was abandoned because she could not keep up. She had been walking for five or six days when she became exhausted, said Alejandro Lopez Bajo with the Mexican Consulate in Laredo.
She was in labor Sunday when three Border Patrol agents found her on the side of the road near the border city of Laredo. Minutes later, the agents delivered the tiny infant in the back of a Border Patrol sport utility vehicle.
"I've never seen anyone that far along in the brush," said Agent Jerry Doyal, a former hospital corpsman in the Navy who pinched the umbilical cord with his fingers.
The baby was at a Corpus Christi hospital with her mother.
The mother can either take her baby home or make a plea to remain in this country. U.S. immigration authorities sometimes go easier on mothers of infants.

What you posted shows there is no reciprocal "agreement" between our two countries. Free Trade (and don't think this cheap labor doesn't fit there)exists between two partners playing by the same rules. There is no balance in this deal.

How could anyone not feel for them? If I found her on a desert in that kind of perdicament, I'd have taken them in.
We shouldn't be forced into this, neither should she. I must say I think she was a dumb ass to take that trip on 7 months pregnant. Someone was watching out for that baby, too bad it's not their own countrymen. It stinks for them and it stinks for us. No one, save a handful of vested interest parties benefit from any of this madness.

Hey, CATravelAgent, I know biz has been slower for your line of work since 9/11. How 'bout guided tours of the third world. You could take them through E. LA, then come up to No. California to our grand national forests and show them armed gangs of Latino thugs guarding thier farms of pot. You could even run them down to Texas along the border and show them "colonias" where thousands of "hispanic" illegals live with no water, sewage, etc in shacks. Heck, you can take them to several 3rd world countries and they won't even need a passport.

Mike Huckabee is encouraging them to use the FREE ILLEGAL ALIEN "Prenatal care" that is in our State budget. Come on down! All their ob-gyn needs will be met. So in reality, we are going to help the ILLEGAL mothers birth healthy new American Citizens.

I saw that headline. WHERE are their men?? Well, besides already in the US. The women seem to be fending for themselves.
I don't recall how many were in the group, the Father could have been there. We have had a lot of rain and I would think the river might be deeper and swifter than usual.
It was sad to read. Perhaps they should blame Fox for encouraging them to come across illegaly!!
