MARATHON, Fla. -- When rescuers started counting a large group of stranded dolphins in the Florida Keys this morning, they couldn't believe how many there were. So far, the count stands at 96.

A group of veterinarians, members of marine mammal rescue groups and volunteers are caring for the wayward rough-tooth dolphins that stranded themselves just off Marathon Key Wednesday afternoon.

"Some local news-channel's obsession with stranded dolphins has nothing to do with the Schiavo situation."

See my post above ...

The suspect is accused of swimming nude across Biscayne Bay, bound for Kournikova's $5 million estate. He was arrested after turning up naked at the wrong house on a neighbor's pool patio and yelling, "Anna! Save me!"

I didn't say "all of it" has to do with Terri, but there is a parallel here.

If you cannot see the difference between an obsession with a bunch of mammals going through the throes of death (this happens all the time down here and most of the time these animals die anyway) and the virtual "ho-hum" coverage of the planned death of an innocent human being, then your perceptor is out of whack.

Difference is people can do something about the dolphins.

The only parallel I see is they will likely die. It is a stretch and you are ridiculous for posting it.

The only parallel I see...

I wouldn't expect you to see the difference in how the media fawns over a bunch of dying water mammals, but shows no conscience over the impending starvation death of a woman who left no legal wishes, and who responds positively, to the loving care of her parents; you probably aren't in Florida..but my point about the media coverage is accurate.

We can agree to disagree. I have yet to get a rabid "Save Terri" fanatic to agree that "May God's will be done" is a good prayer in this situation.

I pray that prayer nearly every day.

"God's will" doesn't mean we participate, endorse, or allow the starvation death of a woman who didn't ask for it, and who responds to loving care. OTOH, we can find numerous places in Scripture where the hurting, disabled, and pitiful were cared for by God.

I am not without experience in dying situations. Once my grandfather was gone, breathing only through a machine, we said goodbye. This is not the case with Terri. All she needs is nutrition.

There would be a lot of screaming and protesting by the left if she were a convicted murderer about to be put to death.

You are an honorable person. We only differ on whether she said she wouldn't want to live in this state. I have seen no evidence to prove she didn't say it and the court agrees. My wife and I made out living wills and powers-of-attorney because of this case. I have told her and her sister to err on pulling the feeding tube too soon and never question their action if this ever happens to me.

I would like nothing better than to see Terri recover and lead a long happy life. I went through this situation in Viet Nam with a friend and I have very strong feelings on the subject when the higher brain is missing.

God be with you.

If dolphins are so smart, and if "we have so much to learn from them" as the animal rights folks like to say, how come they beach themselves? Ditto with the whales in New Zealand that also end up high and dry on beaches?

Humans do that kind of thing all the time too. Nobody knows why.

Maybe the dolphins got drunk and passed out on the beach. Humans are good at that.

I woke up one morning on Mission Beach near San Diego on my back looking up at the sun. I immediately realized I was not in my bunk on the ship. Then I discovered I was laying on an open bag of potato chips and that was why I was itching. I thought I had lost my left arm because I couldn’t feel it. Then I realized it was just asleep and under a whale sleeping next to me. I had to dig out to escape. Took about an hour to get the feeling back in my arm. I have never drank Ripple wine since that night.

See you are smarter than the whales - they keep drinking the Ripple, ending up dry on the beach!
