Its official: The United Nations has become the rights other red meat.
At the 33rd annual Conservative Political Action Conferencethe largest annual gathering of conservatives, which took place last monththe UN garnered more passion, more intensity, and more stage time than any other was an issue. Two years ago, it was barely a blip.
Because of its unique mix of heavy-hitter beltway insiders, rank-and-file activists from around the country, and highly motivated college students, CPAC is the best leading indicator of where the conservative movement is headed. And that means the United Nations had better brace itself.
On the first of the conferences three days, the final three sessions on the afternoon schedule all specifically took aim at the UN. First up was Wayne LaPierre, Executive Director of the National Rifle Association, who railed against the bodys attempted international gun grab. The anti-UN panel that followed inherited a wildly revved-up crowd, and the UN-bashing block was completed by Dore Gold, who talked in detail about Kofi Annans complicity in the genocide in Rwanda.
Slogans such as US out of the UN have been around a while, and back in the 90s, many conservatives supported the efforts of Sen. Jesse Helms to withhold back dues to the body.

Heh, heh, heh. Ain't that a shame.
In other news, the sky is blue and water is wet.
If you have not already done so, please sign the petition to get the UN out of the USA. Let's help relocate these anti-American thugs to some 3rd world shithole where they belong.

Well, if conservatives can't get worked up over the UN thugs stealing our tax dollar "contributions" earmarked to feed starving Iraqi children, and other UN criminals raping children in Africa, they aren't paying attention. It is LONG past time for the US to pull the plug on this criminal gaggle of anti-US interests.

And the left is still trying to sell the idea that the US is to blame for Rwanda, because there is no oil there (and no whites). There's an HBO movie coming out with some such snide lines woven into it.
When the UN goes into an area of the world to HELP the people...and are continually RAPING young children....it's time to deep six the creeps along with the whole organization.
Glad they noticed!
Red Meat! Now I like my tag line even better!
Its about time!
Kill it already, it's worthless.
Which of these 5 nations should not have permanent veto power on the UN Security Council due to permanent insignificance: China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, United States?
The U.N. is acting like a government!
Everyone should just consider these horrific scandals 'teaching moments'. ;^)
...The United Nations has become the right?s other red meat...
And I'm hungry!
Not that this isnt anything new, but my Social Worker liberal friend (beermaking makes for strange friendships) used to work for the UN and even he said it was the most inefficent and corrupt organization he had ever seen. He quit because of the unethical behavior of the staff in NYC.
The U.N.'s role has often been anything but effective or in alignment with our values. Would creating a new organization composed only of democracies that committed to helping shoulder the burden of defense and promoting an equal and prsoperous economic playing field be in our interests? There would need to be some formula for representation made up of factors such as level of financial support, size of population, a Senate-like absolute representation. It would have to have a consititution governed by majority rule and minority rights.
Such an organization could better take on if necessary a Russia or China or even an EU if they started backsliding (France would not have the absolute veto she has today). Britain would surely be a part, as would Australia and Poland and Japan and Israel to name just a few. This would also then be an incentive for countries to become democratic to be part of the club, i.e. Egypt for instance.
NATO seems like it has many of these elements, but that is primarily a military alliance as I understand it, and we have many interests that go beyond that. It is difficult for the U.S. financially to continue being the world's policeman today in a world dramatically different from that after WWII when the U.S. towered over a world in ruin. What say ye assembled?
If you want to do something about the UN you are going to have to change the dues structure. If every country has only one vote, the dues should all be the same. Now I know that some of the poorer countries can not afford much so I recommend that nobody pay more than 5% of the annual budget. That's going to call for some cut backs ;o) but I think it would be worth it.
WRKO radio talk show host Pat Whitley was taken hostage in Lebanon when the Syrians were invading. He recalls how the "Blue Helmets" ran like rats. And now the Boston Globe editorial page credits the U.N. with the developments in Lebanon this past week.
