The Prime Minister has always been coy about his early career in rock and roll - and today we found out why.
Tony Blair has confessed to serious style crimes in his days as front-man for a student pop band, not least how he shamelessly mimicked Mick Jagger on stage.
Mr Blair admitted strutting through renditions of the Rolling Stones' Honky Tonk Woman, one hand on hip and wagging his finger in the Jagger mode. He dressed in "massive flares", exposing four inches of bare midriff under a cropped, hoop-necked T-shirt.
And although the venues were only village halls and university colleges, he treated every gig as if it was Wembley Stadium, once bellowing: "Well awright Corpus Christi Alternative College Ball, we are the Ugly Rumours!"
In his first detailed interview about his attempt at pop stardom, Mr Blair admitted: "I was a lot better at moving than I was at singing. And I was a lot slimmer in those days."
His antics were recalled by former band members in a "reunion" of Ugly Rumours for the rock magazine, Word.

Ping!
The word picture sends the mind reeling, LOL!
"pleasant mental picture"
Heh, I totally agree. But I think its wonderfully refreshing nonetheless. Sometimes its not about politics, its just about having fun and enjoying life.
Hey, they guy has a past after all. At least he admits it.
At least it's in his past (hopefully). I hope that Bono takes notice and stops arse-ing around like a politician.
Yes, but the real question is, did he inhale?
I guess Tony Blair is to ears,
What Mick Jagger is to lips! ;-)
The only problem is that Mick Jagger votes Conservative.

Hell, I still do this in my livingroom
Ever listen to the lyrics for "Sympathy for the Devil"? Couldn't be any more conservative. First of all there IS a Devil and to him are ascribed - the death of Christ, the communist revolution, the sectarian wars, the Nazis and the assasination of an American President. I agree!
Mick was espousing Thatcherite ideals in the 1960's - I've seen interviews of him in the old days when he basically stated he wanted the government to get off his back in terms of taxation and regulation.
The Left never picked up on this, for whatever reason, and the Rolling Stones rolled on.

Mental or otherwise.
Dang straight. You know, this might have gotten the Tories a little (just a little) closer to having the Prime Minister's job.
Really? Even at his advanced age, I'm surprised.
