President Bush had some strong words to Syria to get out of Lebanon, noted here.
He and Vice President Cheney welcomed and congratulated the World Series Cham-peens, the Boston Red Sox, who ended a drought of Biblical proportions with their first World Series win in 86 years. With Speaker Hastert and Senator Stevens, he presented the Congressional Gold Medal to Jackie Robinson's widow, Rachel Robinson, in the name of her husband.
In Arnold, Maryland, the president participated in a job training and education dialogue, linked here.
Secretary of State Condi Rice attended a one-day London meeting, info here, to discuss Iran's nuclear life, the Palestinians, etc. She put off a planned trip to Canada next month, a move seen as a rebuff over Canada's rebuff of the North American missile shield.
Senator Kerry positioned himself obscenely close to the president at Bush's remarks honoring Jackie Robinson.
Other than that crude interruption, enjoy today's visit to Sanity Island.
When I first saw that photo, all I could think of was what a dramatic contrast with those awful, terrible dual, arching sabers Saddam Hussein had on either side of one of the main Iraqi highways. What a contrast the uplifted arms of these two great leaders are to Saddam's symbols of his crushing power.
I haven't seen those sabers in photos for some time and I think I remember reading or hearing that they were demolished.
Sotto voce: nah, that's Jim Caviezel!
I don't know if the main ones are still there that we always see on the news, but I got a photo from a soldier in the mail the other day of himself standing in front of a pair of sabers like the ones you mentioned.
And the photo was recent. But who knows, it wouldn't surprise me if there were several saber arches all over the place. I know the photo was taken in Baghdad. Maybe I'll write and ask him...
Please do ask him. I'm interested to know if there were more than one set of sabers; do some remain, and where.
Thank you
Thank you
I shall write him a note right now before I forget!
Thanks for the great pictures. Do you know what the occasion was when Laura had on the black suit and hat? Don't recall her wearing a hat before, even at the inagural.
LOL...I hope that's not Jim Caviezel. If it is, he's become severely typecast.
Ronald Reagan
Thank you! He sure is a cutie!
Thank you
Considering the way hollywood seeks to limit his career (did you notice how little play his movie about Bobby Jones' career got; the lack of attention from *okay, take a deep, august breath of extreme respect* THE ACADEMY?), it might be a good thing for him to show up a la Waldo, here and there.
God bless that man. I hope (and pray) he gets really great roles from here on out, fulfilling roles, that build up society and tell stories that remain with the viewers.
Laura was in Britain for a funeral. I think it might have been for the Queen Mother's funeral.
That top picture of the president is really nice, and the bottom one is just terrific. Thanks for posting.
I had that first photo in post 312 as my computer wallpaper for a while. It shows a happy, well adjusted, good-hearted, clean-living man with a clear conscience.

President George W. Bush receives a team jersey during a visit by the Boston Red Sox, the 2004 World Series champions, Wednesday, March 02, 2005. We wish you all the best in the upcoming season, said the President to the team. We know that you've been able to do what has been viewed to be the impossible. White House photo by Paul Morse
