Man Charged With Scamming Owners Of Lost Dogs

Suspect Said To Have Needed $85 To Fly Animals Home

POSTED: 11:09 am EST March 2, 2005

ATLANTA -- A woman whose dog is missing says there's nothing lower than preying on people who are desperate to get their pets back.

But that's what authorities in Atlanta say Andre Gould did.

Police say Gould used the Internet to find people who had posted classified ads seeking lost dogs, focusing on animals that had been implanted with a microchip that had identifying information.

Police say Gould would then pose as a truck driver who had found the lost pet on the side of the road and offer to fly the animal home.

They say Gould got as many as 17 people in six states to wire him $85 for a pet carrier to fly their dogs home. He got $3,000 since December, but no one got a pet back.

Gould has been charged with wire fraud and racketeering.

We had a really weird woman call about our 'found dog' ad in the paper. The long convoluted story she told convinced us she was nuts, and we were sure that the dog was not hers, though she said she wanted to come by and look anyway. We were prepared to hide the dog, but she never did show up. Strange people.

This guy is just a particularly cruel thief.

Ping!

I have only posted one lost dog ad but I got several crank calls over it. They were all kids telling me they had run over my dog, even tho the locations they told me were not anywhere near my house. one kid told me that my (13 lb) dog had wrecked the grill of his car and he wanted me to replace it.

I am sure I don't want to watch it. I try to avoid witnessing horrors I can't do anything about.

LOL! I was eating some left over take-out Chinese food, and my husband, noising around, asked:

"What are you eating?"

Me: That sweet-and-sour stuff I got last night.

Him: What kind? Chicken?

Me: Yeah, the "meow-meow" kind.

Him (grinning): Oh, not the "woof-woof" kind, huh?

Me: Naw. I seem to only get that with that Mongolian stuff."
