Virgil Tibbs was from Philly. "They call me MISTER Tibbs!" is one of the best lines ever.
I wanted to name one of our boys "Virgil," but I was vetoed.

The central theme of a father who, while nobody special, would brave any danger to rescue his son, is deeply touching to me. Have you seen "The Incredibles" yet? In the movie, the superhero father suffers the ignominies of cubicle life in order to provide a home for his family. I found this to be even more moving, since it hits home for a lot of us.
My family's divided over whether this is the best Pixar movie.

I was impressed with Spiderman. Me too. The sequel is even better, and the last scene with Doctor Octopus is worth the price of admission all by itself.

I what age/reading level should a child take on reading LORD OF THE RINGS? I have never read the Rings trilogy, but I read The Hobbitt when I was around ten, and liked it a lot.

An outstanding job, and the "I am not an animal" scene is one of the most powerful ever. < shudder>
Is this near the time when he recites the "Our Father" or a psalm? That gave me chills too.

Yes, Yes, and what about "Blazing Saddles", "Brain Donors", "Search For the Holy Grail" and who can forget "Revenge of the Pink Panther". Ah, Brain Donors. Why couldn't those guys have made a ton of movies like the Marx Brothers. Good Lord, that was hilarious!

26. War of the Worlds (1953, no rating). The antidote to 1996's Independence Day. When aliens attack, who you gonna call? This film says you call God, and he will answer.H.G. Wells, the atheist, would not have been pleased with what 50s Hollywood did to his book.

I'd go as far as to say it was the only good Star Trek film.

You know, I never thought about the fact that they're my two favorite Trek Movies and they both have Moby Dick quotes in them. Maybe I have a Melville thing going on...
I also liked Search for Spock, Voyage home, Undiscovered Country and Insurrection a lot, and Nememsis was a very good film but I could only watch Data die once. I really hate that they killed him off.
