Just think about it....almost every issue that was made HUGE by the MSM has its own problems with the real world, or what is actually true. Goes back to the Viet Nam War, so about 45 years or so (got our first TV in 1963)they have been giving the American people only their side of an issue. Recently, they forgot to point out that President Bush's SS reform would be VOLUNTARY.

Nearing the end of his life Grant finished an autobiography (not limited to his presidential years, it is true) to make money to support his family. He was nearly broke at the time.

Shortly afterwards, he died, of throat cancer. Even if you disliked him--and I did like him--you have to admire him for this heroic feat. The pain must have been awful.

US Grant is my personal favorite person in history. Normally, I avoid memoirs like they contain live scorpions. Normally, memoirs are so boring that (to steal a line)...Oh, you're reading those memoirs? Here's a gun so you can blow your brains out. You'll thank me for it. I deliberately skipped his memoirs for fear of hating them.

One day I desperately needed something to read and started his book and couldn't put it down.

Grant's memoirs are probably in the top ten or so books I ever read. He didn't provide the yard stick to measure other memoirs against. He provided the tower of life to measure other memoirs. So far the others have been found wanting.
