Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).
So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.
If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.
Here's a few helpful links.
C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.
C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.
C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.
C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.
OR FEDNET has online feed also.
A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).
THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]
Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority
And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.
Congress.org <<< Good resource
THE WAR DEPARTMENT (aka The Dept. of Defense)
Apparently Sheets had a whole lot wrong in his speecifying.
Durbin is up again and I, too, am agreeing with him. This is an out-of-body experience. I agree that those forced into bankruptcy due to military service should not be subject to the presumption of abuse. If this Durbin amendment derails this whole bill, I will be delighted.
Uh oh, somebody up in the Gallery is causing a ruckus.
This gets worse and worse. Durbin just said that what is going on sounds remarkably like debate. I agree with that as well.
I just turned on Fox News with Brit Hume and he showed part of Byrd's speech that I missed---
Byrd compared the MAJORITY Republicans, wanting a simple majority for judges like using Hitler like tactics to justify their actions--
Then, Major Garrett comes on and says that the Reps that he talked to CONCEDED THAT THE DEMOCRATS HAVE THE UPPER HAND IN THE JUDICIAL NOMINEE DEBATE!!!!
Then they showed Kennedy threatening to stop ALL of Bushs agenda if the Reps try to push Bushs nominees--um, Blackmail!!!
I saw that too WTF is Byrd thinking!!!!!
Flip on the Senate....I was just watching Hillary talk w/ Obama & McCain. Boy I'd like to be a fly close to that conversation.
She's yapping w/ Kerry right now...
Frist is going to have to go Nuclear now.
If he doesn't the dems will walk all over us for the next 4 yrs., or longer.
Well, they are off to a good start: Robert Byrd called the GOP Nazis today from the floor of the Senate.
Did Major Garrett say which repubs. he talked to?
"Somebody" on the committee.
Brit's pannel is talking about the Byrd rantings.
I'm listening to Bryd's comments now
OUTRAGOUS!
Krauthammer saying that Byrd, in his younger days, fillibustered the Civil Rights Act.
Funny Byrd left that out....
First Kennedy called Bush's nominees "neandrethals" (last year)
Now Byrd is saying that having an up or down 51 vote majority is setting the country on the course of the Third Reich!!!
Then, Kennedy says that they won't do anymore work this year if they use the "nuclear option", which from what I have heard is the REAL way that the nominations are supposed to be handled!!!
Hugh Hewitt is talking about Byrd now.

Oh boy, and it sounds like Hugh hasn't heard this yet. This should be good....
Thanks
