Border Tunnel Discovered In Upscale Neighborhood

Federal authorities from San Diego are investigating a border tunnel discovered by Mexican authorities over the weekend, it was reported Monday.

The tunnel connected a luxurious Mexicali residence to neighboring Calexico in Imperial County, officials with the Mexican Federal Attorney General's Office told The San Diego Union-Tribune.

Inside the passageway, investigators discovered lighting and ventilation equipment, a closed-circuit security system, hydraulic machinery and various tools, Mexican authorities told the newspaper.

The finding led agents to believe that the tunnel was presumably used for drug trafficking, Mexican authorities told the Union-Tribune.

A middle section of the tunnel was initially discovered in the United States early Friday by U.S. Border Patrol agents checking for tunnels in a residential area of Calexico, the newspaper reported. It is the third tunnel found in Calexico in the past 15 months.

U.S. investigators searched for the tunnel's other end, Lauren Mack, a spokeswoman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in San Diego told the Union-Tribune.

"This is an ongoing criminal investigation, and we're still trying to locate a possible exit to the U.S.," Mack told the newspaper.

On the Mexican side, the tunnel's entrance was found Saturday by agents from Mexico's Federal Agency of Investigation, the newspaper reported. The entrance led from the bedroom of a house about 100 yards from the border in an upscale neighborhood known as Colonia Nueva.

Time to put a platoon of the Marines at this tunnel, and whoever tries to come out of the tunnel or go into the tunnel can be grabbed and placed in jail!

I'm glad we found it. No matter how hard we try it is always easier for the enemy to play offense than for the US to play defense. Big praise for the U.S. Border Patrol agents who spotted this. They may not have spotted an entry for illegal immigrants but they did stop an entry for drugs.

What the article failed to say is that the tunnel was found by using ground-penetrating radar. There is no excuse for using all of the advanced technology currently available in order to secure our borders. The second line of defense is an armed populace.

Oh, I am happy that we found the tunnel.

My point is that Germany had devices to monitor tunneling activity from POW camps during WWII.

Why is the most powerful Nation on the planet "stumbling" across these instead of hearing them being built?

Just great, they think it might have been used to smuggle drugs, why not tacos, what would point to drugs. I would think if you have a tunnel and you find one end you could go and find the other and find out where it surfaced. Too easy for the Feds, they will have to have multi national conference,, and the California will decide they are violating someone's rights, and arrest our agents.

In a debate, the alternative to Bush is irrelevant to the TRUTH of your statement. And you do indeed speak the truth.

"The entrance led from the bedroom of a house about 100 yards from the border in an upscale neighborhood known as Colonia Nueva [New Colony]"

How appropriate is that sentence to the Mexican invasion?

If I could get away without paying taxes, have all my insurance unnecessary, and rely on the welfare state of the US, I'd build a luxurious tunnel from the US to an upscale Mexican suburb.
