TYLER, Texas When gunfire erupted in Tyler, Mark Alan Wilson didn't hesitate. He grabbed a Colt .45 handgun and charged downstairs to confront the assailant.
David Hernandez Arroyo last Thursday had murdered his ex-wife on the courthouse steps and was turning on his son when Wilson arrived.
Authorities say Wilson was the first to fire back -- and he saved the young man's life.
But Wilson was killed, outmatched by Arroyo's body armor and knockoff AK-47.
Wilson, who was a Navy veteran with years of weapons training, had a permit to carry a concealed weapon.
Wilson's actions in the Tyler shootings drew hearty praise from gun advocates who say he probably saved several more lives as well.
But gun control groups say his death is further proof that carrying a gun increases a person's chances of getting killed.
Tyler police spokesman Don Martin warned gun owners to carefully weigh the risks before intervening.
State Representative Suzanna Hupp is a supporter of the state's concealed carry law.
Hupp says Wilson's actions and his access to a gun improved the odds that Arroyo would be taken down before more people were killed.
I'm going to have to move to Texas if this keeps up.
This is the same mindset of the people who wail about our invasion of Iraq killing a few thousand civilians - while stopping Saddam's goons' annual butchery of 10,000 or so of his opponents.
I thought Wilson had a Glock 9mm, not a Colt .45 (or is Colt .45 the only "gun" this "journalist" knows, because of his frequent trips to the liquor store?).
Heroic, unselfish action in a time of danger increases your chance of getting killed. This helps illustrate the total lack of courage and caringof the gun-control lefties and they demean it to hide their shame.
God Bless Mark Alan Wilson, a true American hero.
Anti gunners lie, that's what they do.
Witnesses reported Wilson's gun *specifically* as a "45-type" or "1911". About the only better handgun he could have chosen was the FN Five-SeveN with those 'defective' JHPs they initially released that turned out to be AP - and that only if he'd known the guy was wearing armor.
Ya think ? what an a$$bag...
Another scenario where a determined bad guy does what he wants regardless of the statutes, unfortunaely, the good guy went center mass...
This is the main theme on some radio talk shows here in Texas---it only took about a half-a-day before this was mentioned---
Luckily the local talk show hosts I listen too had already given the guy "props" for saving not only more lives but the son of the gunman had been shot once and the gunman was getting ready to shoot him again when the "good samaritan" distracted him and the son was just injured--
I am truly sorry the poor guy lost his life, but he really did save some, and knowing he was a vet, I am sure it was just reflex on his part to try to help--
No, but trying to take away what he rightfully had access to might have that effect.
Take a guess about why we're not hearing a howl for renewing the "assault weapons ban". This story, once the particulars are known, legitimizes the concealed carrying of weapons.

Had he known he had a vest the best thing to do is go for the hip bone, if you can hit and bread the pelvis he goes down and when he hits the floor it hurts even more. Personally my handgun is there just to get me to my shotgun, if he had that instead of the .45 this story would have come out completely different. It is horrible to die such a heroic death and have it used by the liberal scum against everything he stood for.
Some of the large-caliber "hunting" revolvers (.454 Casull, .478, .500 S&W) probably would have at least temporarily incapacitated the goblin, but you're right. I got my info on the gun type from the Kim Dutois website, where he reported it to be a Glock 17.
Thats BREAK the pelvis - Duh!
I know every state is different, but would Mr. Wilson have gotten into legal trouble if he FAILED to take action? In other words, in Texas does a CCW holder have a "duty to act"? In most states I think the answer is "no," but want to be sure.
If he'd had a Barrett 50 BMG he could have pierced this guys body armor and he would still be allive.
His family should sue the Brady group and other gun control types for wrongful death.
