Just watching CNN. They Pro-Syrian government has just resigned. Huge celebrations in Beirut.

How does any of this square with Russia squarely throwing its weight behind Iran, and Iran throwing its weight behind Syria? Strategically, a retreat makes no sense at this point. Maybe down the road, but really, do you think they're going broke with Russia and petrol-dollar-rich Iran as patron states? Heck, Russia's openly selling them weapons.

FWIW, my take...you have Hezbollah entrenched in southern Lebanon, virtually a political entity....thousands of terrorists and they have huge supplies of those missiles that can reach Israeli settlements in the north..Now, if Syria pulls its trops out..and the Lebanese form a government, where do these Hezbollah go?
