Just watching CNN. They Pro-Syrian government has just resigned. Huge celebrations in Beirut.
Mod note: On CNN's banner:
Lebanons pro-Syrian prime minister, Omar Karami, announces his resignation and that of his government. Details soon.
Linda Vester covered this a little, but now we are on to the Pope, BTK, and next...teachers who sleep with their students. Grrrr.
Say, didn't Kerry just meet with the Syria guy in January??
Did anyone else have a sickening feeling at the way that statue fell? Falling half way, quickly, but then holding strong?
It had to be re-evaluated to make that last resistant link to its foundation break, and people had to be gently moved out of the way as another stronger pull was taken by the tank recovery vehicle. I dreaded the thought that it was symbolic of how our war would go, with the worst yet to come in.
I think they're in free fall again ;^)
NO Bush = NO FREE IRAQ
NO FREE IRAQ = NO HOPE OF FREEDOM in the Middle East
NO HOPE OF FREEEDOM in the Middle East = NO ATTEMPT AT FREEDOM... PERIOD!!!
it's NOT rocket science
I don't see any screw-ups. This thread was up at 1157, and a poster referred to FNC coverage at 1159.
Their elections are scheduled for May...here's hoping they use purple fingers then! The Purple Finger of Freedom!
I've complained bitterly about the media for years...and I'll continue to do so...but they serve a purpose in instances like this. Without them, I have no doubt those Syrian soldiers would have crushed the protests. Here's hoping the media appreciates the power it has as a force for good.
Has anyone heard how this is being covered in the region, by the Al Jazeeras?
Here's a clue for you: the "rules" changed about 3 hours ago.
Don't look for the so-called mainstream media to give the Bush administration any credit of course.
More fantastic pictures in #418. Thank you, Wolfstar!
When the other nets are in breaking news, and FNC is mired in the weather or Michael Jackson or any other thing, then, yes, I'm gonna call 'em on it.
If that's wrong of me, so be it.
I hate being sick .. I'm missing all the news
Scott McClelland is having the WH presser now
Make what you want from this:
Our second goal is to prevent regimes that sponsor terror from threatening America or our friends and allies with weapons of mass destruction. Some of these regimes have been pretty quiet since September the 11th. But we know their true nature. North Korea is a regime arming with missiles and weapons of mass destruction, while starving its citizens.
Iran aggressively pursues these weapons and exports terror, while an unelected few repress the Iranian people's hope for freedom.
Iraq continues to flaunt its hostility toward America and to support terror. The Iraqi regime has plotted to develop anthrax, and nerve gas, and nuclear weapons for over a decade. This is a regime that has already used poison gas to murder thousands of its own citizens -- leaving the bodies of mothers huddled over their dead children. This is a regime that agreed to international inspections -- then kicked out the inspectors. This is a regime that has something to hide from the civilized world.
States like these, and their terrorist allies, constitute an axis of evil, arming to threaten the peace of the world. By seeking weapons of mass destruction, these regimes pose a grave and growing danger. They could provide these arms to terrorists, giving them the means to match their hatred. They could attack our allies or attempt to blackmail the United States. In any of these cases, the price of indifference would be catastrophic.
We will work closely with our coalition to deny terrorists and their state sponsors the materials, technology, and expertise to make and deliver weapons of mass destruction. We will develop and deploy effective missile defenses to protect America and our allies from sudden attack. (Applause.) And all nations should know: America will do what is necessary to ensure our nation's security.

You betcha.
I'm a big Clancy fan.
This is for all practical purposes the age of Clancy. Just about anything could happen.
Didn't he end up dancing at the end of a rope?
These photos will proudly take their place in history next to the many beautiful pictures of the purple-fingered Iraqi voters
And the Afghanis flying their kites!
LOL - news conference from WH on now. Helen Thomas needs a double dose of Maalox, and Ex-Lax.
Just lost sound from FNC, back now.
