With Florida's large elderly population I am shocked he got such a high percentage of the vote. I don't think people really look up the background of a judge when they vote...I'll make a guilty admission. Up 'til now, when I knew a judge was a Republican I pulled the lever. From now on, that changes with me. I suspect that's what may have happened with Greer. He got the "I don't know a thing about him except he's a Republican" vote. Well, when Greer's ads can include apparent endorsements from other judges and his opponents can't because it would be criminal for another judge to give such an endorsement, or for a candidate to imply receipt of an endorsement when none exists, that would tend to give Greer an advantage.

I don't know a thing about him except he's a Republican" vote.TX also has some liberal "Republican" judges of that stripe. But in FL, the judges are elected on nonpartisan ballot. So many in Pinellas Co. would not have known that Greer is "Republican" unless they recalled his service in the 1980s as a county commissioner. In TX all judges except municipal judges are elected on partisan ballots. You're right about voters being uninformed.
