"The lines are being drawn in the sand all over. Terrorism, abortion, euthanasia, more issues. "

Yes, they are. It is - among other things - because the Second Civil War is starting. Unlike last time, the sides don't correspond to specific states or regions.

This is SO true! And the closer the DFC plays 'em to the chest, the more Felos will sweat! LOL! Isn't that a great thought?

However, I've learned to have a couple of laughs, but to never gloat. Gloating takes one's focus off the enemy's next maneuver. After enjoying a good laugh, I always get firm with myself regarding the fact that the battle isn't over until it's WON. :o)

Please clarify something for me.

Did Judge Greer, or didn't Judge Greer rule that Terri may NOT be fed by mouth if her feeding tube is removed?

Thx

Maybe he can chant something and get the answers.

It's 10:30pm in France right now. I am so tired. I got up at 5:30 this morning and raced to my computer for news about what happened in court yesterday.

Now this is turning into a vicious cycle. I am so anxious to find out about what has happened in court today, but I am so tired form getting up so early that I can ahrdly stay awake.

Nobody has heard anything yet, right? If you did hear anything I am sure you would have posted.

May "NOT" be fed by mouth.

Thats bull, it's illegal, states so in the statutes. I really don't see how Greer thinks people can't read.

Terri Schiavo's Plight
Wednesday, March 09, 2005
By Linda Vester
Hi All,

I'm sitting here stunned by an e-mail a viewer just sent me about Terri Schiavo (search), the Florida woman whose husband wants her feeding tube removed. (The tube is scheduled to be removed nine days from now.)

First, I got this:

I live in Clearwater, Forida, so I have been familiar with the case for years.... On your show Congressman Dave Weldon (search) stated that removing the feeding tube would be a painful death. In reality, she would feel nothing; her body would simply shut down as if she were falling asleep...

Now, I'm not a doctor, so I don't know whether this is true. But here's the e-mail that stopped me cold:

I have seen this done to someone and it is the most horrific thing I have ever witnessed. The doctors said he would be gone by midnight or the next morning, but he lived for almost a week. I have never seen such screaming and moaning... His tongue was so swollen, it protruded out for the last two or three days; and even though he had not opened his eyes or spoken for several days, I once got a nurse to give me one of the huge syringes and filled it with water. Even though he could not open his hands he grasped the syringe like a starving baby and held it to his mouth even when it was empty. I still have nightmares and cry when I think about it...
—Linda Dell, Hennessey, Oklahoma

More e-mails on this later in the blog.

But first I need to let you know what's on tap for Thursday's “DaySide.” First, a congressman is introducing a bill to ban child erotica sites from the Internet. Have you ever heard of these so-called "child modeling" websites? Apparently, viewers pay to see photos and video clips of little children (as young as five) in suggestive poses; then somehow make contact with the children and converse with them by e-mail.

There even have been cases of adults holding "parties" in hotel rooms where pedophiles can meet the young children face to face. My first reaction as a parent is, "Shut 'em down!" Seems like a no-brainer. But if the material on these sites is not obscene, aren't they protected under Freedom of Speech? Tell me what you think at dayside@foxnews.com.

On the lighter side, we'll have a special interview with actor Bruce Willis (search); his new movie, "Hostage" debuts this Friday. (Some people say it's a lot like the first "Die Hard.") I've never met Bruce before, but I'm hoping he'll take questions and comments from you all. I plan to get personal with him in this little chat... So what do you want to know about him? Ask away, and I'll forward your comments to Bruce.

Okay, now back to the Terri Schiavo case, and more of your e-mails:

It is selfish for people to keep this girl alive. They should think about the girl's life and what it might be like to be trapped inside her mind and body.... I do not want to be like this and hope that... my wife would be able to pull the plug or tube, or anything keeping me alive...
—Scott Towler, Wilmington, Illinois

People should be allowed to die with dignity... Being kept alive with tubes and machines is undignified. Anyone, including her parents, who really believe that she will bounce back from this tragedy, is being selfish and keeping Terri alive for all the wrong reasons...
—Larry Stessel

Terri is NOT in a vegetative state... heroic measures are NOT being used. Food and water are NOT heroic... ventilators and drugs are. Food and water are BASIC elements that no one should be deprived of by someone else...
— Melissa Elliott, RN (A Nurse), Springfield, Ohio

I have worked with patients who have been in Terry's condition and have seen that with therapy they can be rehabilitated to talk, sometimes to walk, and to eventually care for some of their own daily needs. We will not know to what extent she could have been rehabilitated if we allow her to die...
—Carmillia Kimmel, BS RN (Also a Nurse)

You know, it's so hard to decide for other people what's "dignified." My Dad fell ill with pancreatic cancer and had written instructions that he did not want to live, stripped of his dignity. He was very specific about his definition of quality of life. But everyone is different. And unless you're Terri's doctor, do you really know what kind of recovery she is or is not capable of? Just asking.

See you on the air,

Linda

One more phone call I made today. I called C-Span and said that this was an important issue and that I wish they would broadcast all committee meetings and floor dicussions on the Federal, "condemed to die by euthanasia must have a lawyer" bell that is going though the U.S. House and Senate.

If others would call C-Span and tip them off that this is the Roe v Wade of Euthanasia we could get exposure to help Terri.

Terri Schiavo Deserves the Same Rights as Ted Bundy; Disability and Pro-Life Groups to Endorse 'The Incapacitated Persons Legal Protection Act'

News Advisory:

Ted Bundy, the BTK killer and others like them currently receive more protection under the law than Terri Schiavo, the Florida woman who has been sentenced to death by starvation and dehydration by the Florida Courts. However, if Congress passes "The Incapacitated Persons Legal Protection Act," they can rightfully change that. This bill would require that any individual whose life-sustaining treatment is ordered withdrawn pursuant to a court order, as Terri's has been, has the right to habeas corpus relief to ensure that such persons receive fundamental due process and equal protection of the law before their death is ordered. This is the same due process given to death row inmates.

WHAT: Press Conference with Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kan.) and representatives from pro-life and disability organizations speaking out in favor of "The Incapacitated Persons Legal Protection Act" introduced this week by Sen. Mel Martinez and Rep. Dave Weldon.

WHO:

-- Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kan.)

-- Center for a Just Society, Ken Connor, who represented Gov. Jeb Bush and the state of Florida on this issue, will moderate.

-- Concerned Women for America

-- Family Research Council

-- Focus on the Family

-- National Right to Life Committee

-- National Spinal Cord Injury Association

Government by the courts

I was educated in another country. However, we were taught more about American history and government than our own. One thing we were taught was that the three branches of government — executive, legislative and judicial — were equal with none being more powerful than the other two.

In the last 30-plus years this has slowly eroded until one branch is the governing body. Judges now run this country and in my humble estimation, they are running the country into the ground. They are more powerful than the executive, more powerful than the legislative and, frighteningly so, more powerful than the people.

Recently, the same judicial system that ruled that death row inmates must be put to death humanely, must use sterilized needles, (apparently so the person being executed won't get infection), must have their final meal, must have appeal after appeal — that same judicial system ruled that Terri Schiavo, the brain-damaged lady in Florida, can be starved to death, a fate that doctors determine would take up to two weeks without food or water.

Do you realize that had Mrs. Schiavo murdered someone prior to her accident, it would be unconstitutional to put her to death in this manner?

Do you also realize, should the system be fair, Mrs. Schiavo's husband, Michael, his attorney George Felos, the judge who decides that it is all right to starve her to death and the doctor who pulls the feeding tubes from her abdomen, would all be charged with conspiracy to commit murder?

Now I don't know if Mrs. Schiavo wants to live, but I do know that if that decision is made by someone else, there must be a more humane way than starvation. I also believe that it is not the place of one judge to act as God.

Again today a judge usurped the power given by the founders and ruled against the people of 19 states, immediately releasing more than a hundred murderers from death row. This judge made the ruling that no one under the age of 18, regardless of the number of gruesome murders committed, could be executed. One judge, ruling on personal feelings, undid what the people voted for. Too much power for one person.

Larry Crompton, Scio

Remember what Kennedy said

The Christian people are supporting an administration that not only condones torture but tries to make it seem legal and moral. They apparently do not care that men and woman, both U.S. and Iraqi, are dying in the thousands for no reason other than fiction and oil.

The Christians deny the truth such as "No Weapons of Mass Destruction" or "Saddam did not attack the towers." When the Catholic Church tells the people how to vote, you have to wonder where these bishops were when priests were molesting children and not being punished for it.

Should a woman get raped and become pregnant they do not want to abort it, but believe that the woman must carry this child to full term. If a child is totally deformed or mentally challenged they usually say it's God's will. These have become the most important Christian doctrines. They quote the Old Testament to justify the anti-gay, anti-woman and pro-war statements. When did this all happen?

According to the New Testament, Christ fulfilled the Old Testament and said that you must follow the Golden Rule: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

To quote President Kennedy at the Greater Houston Ministerial Association on Sept. 12, 1960: "I believe in an America where the separation of church and state is absolute; where no Catholic prelate would tell the president — should he be Catholic — how to act, and no protestant minister would tell his parishioners for whom to vote; where no church or church school is granted any public funds or political preference ... where no public official either requests or accept instructions on public policy from the Pope or ... any other ecclesiastical source; where no religious body seeks to impose its will directly or indirectly upon the general populace or the public acts of its officials."

Remember, the devil can speak scripture.

Chris Christina, Albany

All deserve respectful treatment

I'm writing this in response to Mary Grace (Mailbag, Feb. 26).

Mary, does the word attainder mean anything to you? As in the federal government will not pass bills of attainder? The states may not pass bills of attainder; a pivotal word used by our founding fathers. Attainder: the loss of civil rights or property of one sentenced to death or outlawed, twice forbidden in the Constitution of our nation. We all, always, deserve to be treated with respect.

Lordy, Mary, lighten up. If the Arizona style of justice is your thing, why don't you move there? Let the citizens of Linn County, convict or not, raise our own children. You would be teary-eyed too if you were the child having to watch as your parents are dragged off to jail; because they bought you food instead of paying their excessive fine imposed by Linn County justice.

Society has gotten to the point where those convicted of any crime are put in jail. Jail is the easy part, compared to the lifelong stigma attached unconstitutionally on felons. Judges have little say in the sentences they hand down. They don't have the ability to consider the ability of the offender to ever pay fines imposed by state legislators.

The children are the silent victims as we are the silent offenders.

John Healy, Lebanon

PRO-LIFE SUPPORTERS, TERRI'S BROTHER HOPEFUL ABOUT NEW LEGISLATION AIMED AT SAVING SCHIAVO
WASHINGTON DC, USA, March 9 (CNA) - Yesterday, U.S. Representative Dave Weldon (R-FL), and Senator Mel Martinez (R-FL) introduced a piece of legislation which many hope could save brain-damaged Terri Schiavo's life.

According to Weldon's office, House Bill 1151, the Incapacitated Person's Legal Protection Act would "explicitly clarify fundamental due process rights for those who are incapacitated, are under court ordered removal of nutrition and hydration and have no written advanced medical directive in effect."

If passed, the bill would give the family of 41-year old Schiavo access to a federal court to argue for their daughter's life.

Florida judge George Greer ruled February 25th in favor of Michael Schiavo, Terri's husband, who has been trying for years remove the feeding tube, which gives food and hydration to his wife.

Lori Kehoe, Congressional liaison for the National Right to Life told CNA that she is encouraged by yesterday's introduction of the bill.

Basically, she said, "[representatives] fell into one of two categories: those who were extremely supportive of the bill and those who were very ambivalent and didn't really know all the facts."

Kehoe said that it was very powerful for the representatives to meet Schiavo's parents and "to have to look into their eyes and see that this is a human being, not just another test case."

She noted that one of the few harsh reactions came from Rep. Nancy Johnson (R-CT) who "looked right at [Schiavo's brother] and said 'that's not life...how long has she been in that coma and how much is it costing us?'"

"It was really bad", Kehoe noted.

Bob Schindler, Terri's brother who also spoke with CNA this morning said that, "the secular media has really miscalculated [his] sister's condition...and has really dehumanized her."

In response to Representative Johnson's comments to him yesterday, Schindler noted that, "she had already made up her mind and didn't want to listen to me."

While he tried to point out that his sister was not on life support or in a coma, he observed that Johnson "didn't really know anything about the case and didn't want to hear it."

Notwithstanding Johnson's comments, Kehoe has high hopes for the new bill. She noted positive reactions from some senators who she said "are usually very hard."

"The most difficult part now," she said, " is the time line."

Judge Greer set a date of March 18th for Terri's feeding tube to be removed, an act which will effectively end her life.

"It will be difficult but doable", Kehoe added, "We're just praying that this moves fast."
