Congrats to all who freeped.

I live close to Hollywood and Highland. As many of you know, they shut down this street for 10 days around the Oscar event. It causes a horrible traffic problem not just for us local residents, but for a lot of poeple as many people use the Highland exit off the 101 to get to work in the city or to get home. Crossing town is ridiculously slow in this area as it is, but when they do these events it is gridlocked madness and they do not properly detour the traffic or open other streets for "one way" or anything they should do to improve the traffic flow.

It makes me angry that these hollywood types fly in from Aspen or limo in from Malibu for 5 hours one a day, while the rest of the city suffers 10 days of traffic madness for their little self-congratulations party.

I want to get a petition and a city-wide intiative on the ballot that would PREVENT the city from closing down any street for more than 24 hours for a special event like the Oscars or a movie premier; PREVENT any street that was closed for such an even from being closed again within 7 days, and MANDATE that the event organizers who do cause a street to be closed to hire traffic officers to redirect traffic, place "road closure / detour" signs within a one mile radius and turn streets into "one way" streets to improve traffic flow during that 24 hour time period.

I've had it with this traffic madness on Hollywood Blvd and all the surrounding streets as a result.

Anyone game?
