A day in the life of President Bush (2/27/05)
WhiteHouse.gov; Yahoo News Photos ^ | 2/27/05

PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: The President and First Lady attended St. John's Chruch in Washington this morning. The nation's governors are in Washington this week for their winter National Governors' Association meeting, and the President and First Lady are hosting a formal dinner tonight in the White House for them. I waited as long as poosible hoping some photos of the dinner would appear on Yahoo. But it's after 5:30pm Pacific, and none have appeared yet. So thise Dose is going up without them.

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenneger waved the green flag to start the NASCAR Nextel Cup race in Fontana, but left shortly afterwards. No word on whether or not he was to fly immediately to Washington for the dinner. Look for various cabinet secretaries to speak at various sessions of the governors' meeting during the week. Although there is no word as to their schedules, the President and Vice President often attend at least one Governors' Association session.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: From the President's Address to the Slovak people, 2/24/05

I'm proud to stand in this great square, which has seen momentous events in the history of Slovakia and the history of freedom. Almost 17 years ago, thousands of Slovaks gathered peacefully in front of this theater. They came, not to welcome a visiting President, but to light candles, to sing hymns, to pray for an end to tyranny and the restoration of religious liberty.

From the hotel to our left, communist authorities watched thousands of candles shining in the darkness -- and gave the order to extinguish them. The authorities succeeded in crushing that protest. But with their candles and prayers, the people of Bratislava lit a fire for freedom that day, a fire that quickly spread across the land. And within 20 months, the regime that drove Slovaks from this square would itself be driven from power. By claiming your own freedom, you inspired a revolution that liberated your nation and helped to transform a continent.

Slovaks know the horror or tyranny, so you're working to bring the hope of freedom to people who have not known it. You've sent peacekeepers to Kosovo, and election observers to Kiev. You've brought Iraqis to Bratislava to see firsthand how a nation moves from dictatorship to democracy. Your example is inspiring newly-liberated people. You're showing that a small nation, built on a big idea, can spread liberty throughout the world.

At this moment, Slovak soldiers are serving courageously alongside U.S. and coalition forces in Afghanistan and Iraq. Some have given their lives in freedom's cause. We honor their memory. We lift them up in our prayers. Words can only go so far in capturing the grief of their families and their countrymen. But by their sacrifice, they have helped purchase a future of freedom for millions. Many of you can still recall the exhilaration of voting for the first time after decades of tyranny. And as you watched jubilant Iraqis dancing in the streets last month, holding up ink-stained fingers, you remembered Velvet Days. For the Iraqi people, this is their 1989, and they will always remember who stood with them in their quest for freedom.

I didn't turn it on until 10 minutes after it started, so I didn't know about the Bush bashing, but what happened to Chris Rock. He's been so NOT funny and even though he's not to my liking, he can be funny.

Boy oh boy .. do we need to do some house cleaning.

I was watching Mark Levin - discussing his book "Men in Black", and some guy ask him to explain what he thought was going to happen if the repubs went with the "nuclear option". I wish I could remember it word for word, because I was FOFLOL! Basically, he said the dems were throwing a childish tantrum over changing a SENATE RULE - we're not amending the Constitution. And .. the senate rule is AGAINST THE CONSTITUTION and should be done away with. He also said that if the repubs of this session do not get rid of that mess, then why are they there - because they're not defending the Constitution - which they have sworn to uphold.

That's what I understand, both from comments on this thread and from another Free Republic source ... don't remember where.

One problem is ... we have ZERO leadership on the judicial committee.

We were nervous about Arlen Specter and he promised to be good, but we were so right! I don't wish him ill about his health but I wish he'd take a couple of years off to recover.

I'd love to see John Cornyn head the committee. He's become a great senator!

Well, that explains why we didn't hear anything about it last week.

I will certainly be praying for Tony tonight and tomorrow, and for his family, and the Drs as well...

God be with you, Tony!! You are MUCH loved!

Hi SCP - when is Tony's show normally scheduled - I've looked several places for it and can't seem to find it. I adore John Gibson (most of the time), and I'd love to listen this week since TV will be 24/7 Michael Jackson.
