So, basically, he's saying he's trapped in his home area because he's too stupid to get a car and a license for it (which does not require a government ID to get).
From the Article:
Gilmore has epilepsy, and because of that his driver's license was suspended five years ago. He decided not to reapply because it is now easier, when asked for a photo ID, to be able to say forthrightly that he has none.

without showing that you are not an individual who may intend to kill every individual on your flight Is that what is says on the ID? Are terrorist sleepers screened from getting IDs? I'll say it again, if the government has a list of bad people, it needs to go arrest them now, not wait for them to show up at the airport or drive into the city with a car bomb and happen to hit a "drunk driving" checkpoint.

...........but I agree with the first part, requiring ID's adds nothing to security. As Schneier says, if the government has a list of bad guys, why are they waiting for them to show up at the airport? Showing ID can help stop "bait and switch" schemes where a ticket is bought under the name of "Paul Smith" and a very Arab-looking Abdul al-Bombzawi waltzes aboard the aircraft without anybody even asking him his name.

Ultra-libertarian.
He's a fellow traveler.
Right is right.

You do not have a Constitutional right to travel by air without showing that you are not an individual who may intend to kill every individual on your flight and maybe thousands more on the ground.
Read the article. He is willing to show identification, he just wants to see the law requiring it first. There is something wrong with having to obey secret laws, that is why the US Constitution calls for Public Trials.

I have always shown my drivers license when checking in, even before 9-11. If he wants to make an issue out of the identification process, then go to the top.. not hold me up in line because he wants to make a personal stance, which isn't going to result in any new ruling at the entry level of employee he is harassing. There are baggage issues as well. What's to prove he didn't steal the ticket? Your ticket, perhaps! This guy likes control. He can't set up a meeting with the "powers that be"..thought he had influence (chuckles).
What does being a millionaire have to do with any part of this story or what he ate for breakfast of what books he read in school?
This costs us all time and money. Let him take the bus or the train. I am glad he is not flying!
The terrorists 9-11 took a flight from Portland, Maine to Boston, Mass.

I dont know about califas rules but in kansas and missouri you need a social security card and original (with raised seal) birth certificate. to get your drivers licence.Remember, the People's Republik of Kaleeforneeeya issues drivers licenses and ID cards to undocumented illegal aliens. Think about it.
Come to think of it, I'm pretty sure my cat (Feline-American, same-sex partner, in Kalispeak) could get a CA ID.

I have never had a birth certificate, I was born at home and I would bet money to donuts I could get a DL in Kansas or Missouri.
To: reg45
I have to produce government issued picture ID at the Amtrak station.

Yes let's write another law...will he pay for the costs of writing this new law?..he's an idiot! He can get a passport, but chooses not to. Did I say he was an idiot? He's an idiot!

My suggestion is that he get a horse and convert to the Amish religion. Problem solved.

Waiting for someone to not realize riding in a public conveyance is not a right. ;-)

Showing ID can help stop "bait and switch" schemes where a ticket is bought under the name of "Paul Smith" and a very Arab-looking Abdul al-Bombzawi waltzes aboard the aircraft without anybody even asking him his name. The war on terror isn't going to be won by waiting for Abdul to buy a ticket in someone else's name. I would at least hope we acknowledge the enemy is smarter than that. The way to win is effective offense, finding Abdul as he is plotting or preparing for an attack, or real defense, searching Abdul and anyone like him for the means to carry out an attack. The ID requirement is a sideshow specifically created by the airlines to prevent private resale of airline tickets.

"Airlines are not government entities. If they want you to stand on your head and do push-upin order to board, that's their right."
You missed the point. Airlines are not asking for ID just because they think it's a good idea. If you don't have the ID you'll soon find out that the airline employees (and the aiport security guards) all cite Fed regulations. What Fed regulations? That's what no one knows.
I was stopped in an airport for carrying a 13mm Sears wrench. The "rules" (again, no one knows what rules) say that we can't take any tools in our carryon bag. Like the guy in this lawsuit, I've got to wonder how much more secure the world is when I can't take a 13mm Sears wrench onboard.
At the very least, conservative Americans should demand that all laws that apply to us (be they legislation, or bureaucratic regulations, or judicial decisions) be on file and easily available.
