Gilmore has epilepsy, and because of that his driver's license was suspended five years ago. He decided not to reapply because it is now easier, when asked for a photo ID, to be able to say forthrightly that he has none.
Is that what is says on the ID? Are terrorist sleepers screened from getting IDs? I'll say it again, if the government has a list of bad people, it needs to go arrest them now, not wait for them to show up at the airport or drive into the city with a car bomb and happen to hit a "drunk driving" checkpoint.
Ill bet he still pays his property tax and income and ssn tax with a number atached to each one.

Showing ID can help stop "bait and switch" schemes where a ticket is bought under the name of "Paul Smith" and a very Arab-looking Abdul al-Bombzawi waltzes aboard the aircraft without anybody even asking him his name.

Read the article. He is willing to show identification, he just wants to see the law requiring it first. There is something wrong with having to obey secret laws, that is why the US Constitution calls for Public Trials.
Remember, the People's Republik of Kaleeforneeeya issues drivers licenses and ID cards to undocumented illegal aliens. Think about it.
Come to think of it, I'm pretty sure my cat (Feline-American, same-sex partner, in Kalispeak) could get a CA ID.
I have never had a birth certificate, I was born at home and I would bet money to donuts I could get a DL in Kansas or Missouri.
I have to produce government issued picture ID at the Amtrak station.

Waiting for someone to not realize riding in a public conveyance is not a right. ;-)
The war on terror isn't going to be won by waiting for Abdul to buy a ticket in someone else's name. I would at least hope we acknowledge the enemy is smarter than that. The way to win is effective offense, finding Abdul as he is plotting or preparing for an attack, or real defense, searching Abdul and anyone like him for the means to carry out an attack. The ID requirement is a sideshow specifically created by the airlines to prevent private resale of airline tickets.

You missed the point. Airlines are not asking for ID just because they think it's a good idea. If you don't have the ID you'll soon find out that the airline employees (and the aiport security guards) all cite Fed regulations. What Fed regulations? That's what no one knows.
I was stopped in an airport for carrying a 13mm Sears wrench. The "rules" (again, no one knows what rules) say that we can't take any tools in our carryon bag. Like the guy in this lawsuit, I've got to wonder how much more secure the world is when I can't take a 13mm Sears wrench onboard.
At the very least, conservative Americans should demand that all laws that apply to us (be they legislation, or bureaucratic regulations, or judicial decisions) be on file and easily available.
