LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Could the only person ever nominated for an Oscar, a Grammy, a Golden Globe and the Nobel Peace Prize now take over at the World Bank? On Friday, the Los Angeles Times devoted its lead editorial to the proposition that Bono, the Irish frontman of rock band U2, "should be named the next president of the World Bank." Outgoing World Bank president James Wolfensohn's term ends in May and the United States, which has traditionally reserved the post for an American with experience on Wall Street or in government has said it wants to see a successor named before then. "Don't be fooled by the wraparound sunglasses and the excess hipness," the Los Angeles Times said. "Bono is deeply versed in the issues afflicting the least-developed nations of the world."

I wonder if he can balance his checkbook.
Shouldn't that be a prerequisite?

I'll endorse Bono, but only if he lords the World Bank in character as MacPhisto.

Heeey! I like this! I was a music major in college... so can I be the next Treasury Secretary? I mean, if playing music is all that's required to be taken seriously by the LA times... cool! I'll turn in my 2 weeks at work on Monday.

If the LA Times is for it, it has to be a bad idea. In fact, I could have told you it was a bad idea without even reading the LA Times. Come to think of it, why does anyone read the LA Times?

He is also George Soros puppet. This is dangerous development.

Soros has sunk several economiest by the actions best described as ecconomic terrorism. he the same with Kerry puppet.

Bono was also spokesperson for an AL QAEDA ally.

Make two and two, support to terrorism under the banner of The World Bank.

Have you even checked out Paul Hewson's credentials? Man, people like you piss me off. You say stupid stuff about people you don't even know before doing any of the research. Try looking up Jubilee 2000, Debt AIDS Trade Africa (DATA), G-8 Summit 2002, www.one.org, Eden line of clothing (which helps get jobs in Africa) or Live Aid/Band Aid. Any one of these would show you how he's quite qualified for the position. These videos should also clear up some quesstions.

Mmm hmmm... okay... fine... do me a huge favor, please. Take two or three deep breaths (no more than that, or you're hyperventilate), then repeat after me. "He's a freakin' rock singer... he's a freakin' rock singer... " Eventually it will start to sink in. While you're at it, you can also repeat to yourself "this thread is well over a month old... this thread is well over a month old..." That will help as well. It's old enough I was hesitant to even reply here and keep it going, but I hate to think I "pissed someone off" by stating my opinion and couldn't at least add to it a bit more. It's a hobby of mine. Does pissing people off professionally qualify me for any world positions?

I'll admit that Bono is infinitely qualified to, say, sing with a rock band. He can be an influential fundraiser due to celebrity status. But I find it highly dubious that because he's a rock singer who has done charity work, he's qualified to run the World Bank, regardless of what the starf***ers at the LA Times think. Sally Struthers does a lot of charity stuff too. Maybe she can take Kofi Anna's place. Quincy Jones for the Supreme Court? Ya think? Let Mr. Paul Hewson cut his teeth at a few non-musical, non-celebrity positions before we annoint him, 'k?
